Re: Surprise Christmas cage for Dos:)
im so thankful my dad built it so big he doesnt really venture over to the other side though.. he stays by his nest and shelf.. i think he might just be lazy.. and for some odd reason he sleeps at night and is awake during the day now.. thats kinda cool.. haha

Re: Surprise Christmas cage for Dos:)
I'm sure once he realizes that his walls don't start where they used to he'll be more comfortable going further from his nest
I got a secondhand betta fish that had been kept in a tall narrow vase. When I put him in a proper tank he just stayed in one spot, I guess because he was afraid to swim in case he hit the side! He's ok now though and swims gleefully all over the place

Re: Surprise Christmas cage for Dos:)
Haha, it may take him a while to really be comfortable running all over the cage. Teddy and Chublet both took a couple of weeks each before they really started exploring their cage in earnest and even now, Teddy still generally only uses one section of the cage though she has been seen exploring the "other side" when I scatter food there. Chublet however, generally ignored the "other side" until recently when I increased the amount of bedding in there (I wanted to wait until he had taken to burrowing/nesting) and now he spends his afternoon sleeping there. (albeit very lazily nesting--his newest nest is simply a small groove on top of the bedding with him sticking his head in a tunnel while the rest of his body hangs out)
