Cage advice...
Hi all,
I've recently had to separate my two robos so have partitioned my once big and beautiful cage into two smaller ones. Not happy about this to be honest.
I've not had a robo in a smaller cage for a while and it's depressing to see. What could I do to their respective cages to make sure they're happy? Reintroduction is not an option so the cage is gonna have to stay like this for as long as i have them both. Last time I get a pair
My current plans are purely aesthetic, I want to replace the plastic wheel with another wooden one but i do need to get another jar for a sand bath.
Please don't reply with get bigger cages. That is not a solution as we can always go bigger no matter how big the cage is, we would end up buying a second home just for our hamster(s)!! Let's face it, there are hamsters out there which much smaller cages than the ones we have for our furry friends.

Honestly? I don't see a single thing wrong with your habitats, they're beautiful, and have plenty of room for a robo it is unfortunate that they can't have access to the big open area that they had, but it's better this way. In fact quite a lot of robos have no problem with smaller spaces (as long as it's not TOO small) as it's easier to hide, and robos are famously shy

Wow! What gorgeous cages! They're absolutely stunning. Are they handmade? If so, how did you make them?
Also, they are very large cages! Well within the limits! ^^

Re: Cage advice...
Thanks guys, makes me feel less worried about them now. I hope they're happy enough in there!
Yes I made them, they're an IKEA hack using Billy Bookshelf extensions and glass shelves as fronts. On top I used radiator screening to create lids with ventilation.

That's good! I'm sure they're perfectly happy.
What a fantastic idea! I'll definitely do this in the future! It looks so smart, simple, clean and just pretty; it's so different to the normal really ugly cages.

I think your cages look great, no need to feel bad . Just an idea, robos live in the desert you could just have a whole sand area instead of a sand bath if you wanted. If you separate the sand and substrate area with rocks or bendy bridges it can look really nice.

I don't think you have the slightest thing to feel bad about, you've done the best thing for your hams & they both still have great homes, they should both be very happy hamsters.
Peanuts idea about a larger sand area is a good one , they would probably really enjoy that.
