Question Wooden cage.....just in case of holes??

I have this week purchased the gorgeous tectake wooden cage a couple of other members have for our Jocardi. As its made of wood, so I do have a worry shes going chew a hole in it! It has a clear perspex front, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a piece of perspex sheeting in to do a quick repair if necessary....and my question is really, is all Perspex the same and hammy safe?

I have one of the cages and Screech never chewed it. Perspex or acrylic sheets are safe. They would be ideal if a hole was chewed. If you put things in that are easily chewed, the hamster will turn to these instead of the cage. The cage is that big, I dont think a hamster will bother chewing its way out as it has loads of room.

Thank you.....I'm flapping like a new mum!!!
Hubby is putting it together now. We've decided to leave the bottom shelf at the same height and put taller stuff on in. Not going to put top shelf in.....she will 'spiderman' across the top mess....and its quite away to fall!

Thanx again for being so helpful. x

If its any help we've kept a few hams in converted rabbit hutches now. Scamp and Fwirl (their first inhabitants) never chewed the wood at all. Muddle is in one now and he's only ever chewed a tiny bit - that was easily stopped. The fourth ham to occupy a hutch was Eggbiscuit and we learnt a lesson about not keeping really, really destructive hams in anything thats not either glass or metal lol

I think chances are that your ham will behave itself
