Re: $1.00 tank sale!
They should advertise like crazy, but they don't. I'm going to Petco this weekend, cuz, I know I can't carry out a 40-50 gal tank by myself! Lol. Be nice to extend Teddy's cage, or hmmm.. Maybe get a Chinese hamster. .

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
That's good to know about the sale. Wish I had room for a 55 gallon, but that would be costly to keep the bedding in there. lol That and one hamster would be spoiled over the others. Would be great for multiple dwarfs though! (Hoping they never fight).

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
Your welcome. I understand about limited space. I'll be doing re-arranging of the Hammie room, if I decide on a 55 gal tank. As for Candy, 167cm is more than enough space for her. As for Teddy, she would really love as much space as I can give her.
If you had the space, you could buy 1 tank at a time, to expand your Syrians spaces. At least your giving 1 ham an opportunity to further exploration, and roaming space. , and the rest will eventually have the same space..
Bedding, wouldn't be too bad the larger the space I've noticed, the less often I need to do a complete cage clean, just removing soiled bedding and area that they use for toilet. I want to buy 2 tanks, from Petco, but hubs would kill me! Lol!

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
I could only do that if I had less hamsters. lol I have 5. I definitely don't have room for 5 50 gallon tanks, unless I get rid of my 2 glass desks, one of which I'm using the computer on right now. lol They'll have to suffer with their 40 gallon tanks. LOL The poo is what bugs me. Spot cleaning the poo in a larger area to search would be a pain. Switching to the white Kaytee is helping though. I love Boxo, but I just couldn't see it well enough. Wasn't a good enough contrast.

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
Oh, lol. Okay- WOW Emsy, you pick out all the poo? That's a lot of time and searching.. I mainly take out the pee spot areas, but since Teddy's peeing in the sand jar, I just dump the sand out and replace with fresh sand. I don't pick out the poo through out their cages, I mainly look in their sleeping nest, and take out the area that I see the most poo. I can't see much all through their cages, even with the white bedding, and have not seen discoloration ( urine) on the bedding. I can not smell urine or bad smells in their cages, so their cages are okay, right? Lol.

They are not suffering with 40 gal tanks. That's a good size tank! You could do tank toppers, if you ever wanted to expand. ( go up and not out) hehe!
I will have to downsize my work space in the hams room, with a shorter table, if I decide on another tank. Then I will only have room left for 1 more tank or cage. But that won't happen for awhile. Lol.

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
I was joking. :P No, no tank toppers! They'll just climb them and fall off all the time. I don't want to make one either, and there aren't any pre-made ones for 40 gallons that I know of.
I wonder if I'm being over-protective though taking Gizmo's hammock out. He climbs the chain and reaches the lid and climbs on the mesh lid, then falls with a thud, usually on the hammock, fortunately. Still looks like a potential injury.

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
Oh, that's right.. Tank toppers don't come for 40 gal tanks, lol. I've not trued tank topper, but they loom fun, with some moderations .
Emsy, Hams enjoy climbing, and like you, I'm concerned with high falls. Can you lower the hammock? Gizmo hanging off the mesh lid, I'd say, is not a safe thing for him to be doing, nor do you want him to form an habit of doing it. It's like monkey barring in a sense.

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
That's the problem and why I took out the hammock- cause he can climb up the chain, even though the chain is thin. Penny and Wicket can climb theirs, but the mesh is too fine for them to be able to grab on so they just fail. Though if I'm not careful, Penny can get out if the front half of the lid is open. lol

Re: $1.00 tank sale!
This thread got a little sidetracked from the $1 tank sale (which sounds good value!) . I've moved the off topic discussion into its own thread which can be found here. I look forward to seeing the new tanks all set up when you've grabbed your bargains!
