Default Mesh Existing Cage Or Buy A New One.....

.........Hmmmmm decisions

Sorry i've been a bit quiet recently. Had alot of stuff going on to deal with in a very short space of time. I split up with my Fiancee, lost one of my bunnies (Tinkerbell) under anaesthetic for a 2nd lot of x-rays after 2 emergency vets visits within 12hrs and i've now moved into a house share all within 3 days! Topped off with what is now day 4 of 9 days straight at work

My 2 remaining bunnies and the hams are staying at my parents. I'm missing them dreadfully but I get daily picture updates and i'm going to travel home on my days off. Main thing is they are happy and safe.

Anywho...sort of hi-jacked my own thread there for a minute!

So with the ex-fiancee out of the picture and with me moving back home (eventually), I am no longer limited to what cage I can have, so planning on giving Lilly an upgrade

I have a Ferplast Cavie 80 that needs a bit of tlc to repair a cracked corner, but otherwise is brand new. Question is, do I mesh that for her, or go down the Ferplast Mary/Igor Fuchsia route? If I cant get anything girly then it MUST be neutrally coloured so I can make it girly.

I'm also considering a 2nd hand Ferplast Jenny and just cutting it down a bit so its bigger than the Mary but not as big as the Jenny

Oh the choices!

Oh, if anyone has any pics of a meshed rabbit/guinea-pig cage i'd love to see it

Sorry to hear about all the curveballs life seems to have thrown your way recently but I'm glad to hear you're soldiering on and doing your best to get through!

I've meshed several cages but that's more because I don't have ready access to suitable cages over here. I would much prefer to have saved myself the time and injuries and just bought something ready to use out of the box! Though I admit there's a bit of satisfaction at the end of a job well done

The pros of meshing a cage are that it might be cheaper and your range of available cage options will be larger just because you're not restricting yourself to already-suitable cages.

The cons are that you will almost certainly have cuts and abrasions, you will need to make a small investment in some (relatively inexpensive) specialty equipment, it will take time, it can be frustrating getting the pieces to fit and fighting with lengths of mesh which will have a mind of their own

There are a few pictures around of meshed cages, this is the last one I did on this thread to show how in steps: Meshing a Guinea Pig Cage, and Maggie's Debut!

Thanks for the reply Braingirl and thanks for the link to your meshed cage that is very enlightening!

Yeah crap happens but just gotta get on with it. If I didn't I'd be a crying mess on the floor everyday and I can't do that. I'd be no use to anyone.

I am quite accident prone and maybe meshing is a bit more of a faff than I realised. Perhaps I'll keep a look out on eBay and the like for a Mary/jenny or hope I can find an igor.

Cage hunting will keep me busy I guess and my mind on other things.
In the mean time her is a pic of Lilly my mum sent me last night enjoying her food

Yes i have a problem! I love the colour pink too much its basically an addiction Lol!

Have found a Ferplast Mary on Ebay for £20 that ends the weekend....hmmmmmmm

I think i would like something a bit bigger for her. However it may do untill i can find that 'something'. Certainly much better than the duna fun she is currently in and for £20 can't really grumble at that
