Making different levels in a cage
Hi, I have the Savic hamster heaven cage and am wanting to make one half of the cage with deep substrate for burrowing and the other half shallower, so I can still stand the wheel on the floor of the cage. any thoughts on how I can achieve this? what would be a good divider to enable me to do this?
thank you

Re: Making different levels in a cage
Hello, I have an alaska, I bolted sheets of acrylic to the bars to enable me to do deep one side. I also tied seagrass mats to the insides too

Tying seagrass mats or hemp mats or even cardboard to the inside bars round one end and partway along fyy trying and back will enable you to have it deeper at one end. Dividers can get tricky. I think it’s fine to just have sloping substrate. If it was a bigger cage would suggest a cork log between the levels to lower them more gradually.
The Hamster heaven isn’t a particularly tall cage - would there still be room for things on top of the substrate at that end? (Sorry maybe that isn’t the plan!)

Re: Making different levels in a cage
I have used a big bendy bridge on it's side as a devider before. The multicoloured ones are safer than the natural ones because they don't have the gaps. Here's an example of a foster cage that's smaller than the Hamster Heaven. I think that's your idea to devide a burrowing area from the shallow area where the wheel is.

Another thing you could do is to use a house or a shoe box house as a devider. I've done that by cutting out another door so the hamster can sleep in the house and access both, wheel and burrowing area on each side of the house.
