One idea that I use a lot is to buy some strong Velcro (You can usually find this pretty cheap) from a craft supply store, and attach the Velcro to the side of the cage, and then to the back of the water bottle and the stick them together. This is what I have been doing for my hammies for years! Hope this helped!

This is what I do with mine...

You will need:

– Stainless Steel or Brass Wire
– Good Quality Wire Cutters
– Pliers
– Elastic Band
– Water Bottle
– Drill
- Plastikote

Instructions:

– The first thing you’ll need to do is work out how high you want to position the spout of your pet’s water bottle. You’ll need to take the amount of substrate into account when deciding where to place the bottle as well as making sure that it’s not positioned too high so that the lid won’t fit. Ours is positioned 120mm from the base of the cage. Make a mark at this point.

– Drill a hole at the point where you made the mark for the spout. When drilling your hole, make sure you’re using a bit that is big enough to create the hole for the spout to fit through.

– The next thing that you’re going to need to do is create the hook that you will push through from the inside of the cage to hang your bottle from. Cut a 105mm piece of the stainless steel wire with your wire cutters.

– Using the pliers you’ll need to bend a 90 degree 25mm piece at either end of the wire.

– Now using a smaller drill bit, drill two smaller holes above your spout hole, making sure that they are level with each other.

– Poke your wire through the smaller holes from the inside of your bin and then using your pliers again, bend a small section of the wire at each end in an upwards direction.

– Attach an elastic band to the hooks and make sure that your water bottle fits.

– Give your wire a clean and coat with Plastikote if you prefer and you’re ready to hang your water bottle on its new hook.

All measurements are approximate and may need to be tailored to suit the bin and water bottle that you are using. We use Classic Colourtone Small water bottles with our cages

It`s always a good idea to buy a good bottle holder if you can from an online retailer where possible for inside a Bin cage or a tank, but if you can`t for any reason, this idea works great: pinched an image from Tomic!

I'm so glad this thread exists!

We've just transferred our hamster into a bin cage and have been using the toilet roll tube holder but it doesn't seem super sturdy? And because Faoran likes to dig and kick sawdust everywhere, he often knocks the water bottle over >.<

Wow, wish I had read this thread first. I bought an Alfie stand alone bottle and in one night she climbed & tipped it over 3xs, all the water draining out. I am thinking of getting some cement to make it heavy or just trying to return it.

Maybe this could work in a bin cage as well as with glass, just as long as the plastic isn't too thick I guess. It's a magnetic bottle holder with one magnet attached on the outside to keep it in place.

We just made a hole in TP roll and put the bottle inside with metal bit being on the outside of the roll. it stands securely next to the "wall" of the bin cage and there is no way that robo hamster will knock it off. Not sure about the bigger ones though.

I've got a bottle and holder set that I bought off of Amazon that I used in Victoria's tank when she first came home that I thought might be worth sharing (I apologise if it's been shared before): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's fairly light and a small Chinesey managed to knock it over when she got a bit too carried away with digging but it's worth considering as a possibility for a robo.

I had been searching for velcro for ages but just couldn't find any so I improvised!
There was some 'click and stick' velcro-like stuff for sale in a local hardware shop that was meant to be used for hanging paintings. I bought some and it works wonders! Recommend 100000%
No pictures atm will post some later, sorry.
