Question Wire Mesh for bin cage *help*

Hi , I am making my first bin cage. Has anyone used mesh screening for the top instead of the hard wire mesh? Its the type of metal screening that a lot of aquarium tops are made of. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Do you mean the flexible stuff that is often used in window screens? Or the really stiff, black-painted mesh that reptile lids are used for? If it's flexible I don't recommend it as I used it once in a pinch for my gerbils and they were able to leap up, grab the mesh and hold on while they chewed through it to escape. On the other hand, hamsters aren't known for their jumping ability so you may be alright. How tall is your bin?

I always use the same one : 1/4 inches square mesh from the seasonal section hardware store...

It's, to me, the best !

Good luck !

I didn't even know you could buy that mesh separate from the pre-made tops! It must be expensive, I would just go with the readily available (and cheap!) 1/4" mesh as The Hamster's Family suggested

Mesh is relatively cheap to buy in small sheets, I got more than enough for a ZZ1 for £7 (around $10?)

Ok thank you everyone- the 1/4 mesh sounds like the best!
