I think it is important to acknowledge the occasional finding of a "starter kit" or "gently used" cages sometimes located in a pet store or market. post pictures or descriptions of deals and bargains you find!

MY DEAL:

a moderate sized, barred cage with a wheel, exercise ball, house, and (unworking) hamster leash for only $10!

Barney Cage. 80cmx50cm. Ebay. Brand new. £26 yet to arrive. Already have one and that cost me £59.90 from zooplus so rather pleased with my bargain. Hope it arrives soon and inone piece.

I got a hamster heaven for free once!
About 4 years ago I ordered one online and when it was delivered the guy tried to deliver 2, I said nope I've only ordered 1.
So he took the other one back and a few days later I received a refund......even though I had only paid for 1!
So I got it for free.

wow wish I could get lucky with that, the best thing that happened to me (non hamster related) was a few weeks before I got married last year found £80 in the bin in the toilets at work, handed it in and found it in my handbag when I got home from work the day before our wedding.
