German Inspiration
I don't know what the rules are for posting other forums on here, but I certainly think that it's worth looking at! Some of these cages are mind blowing! I have managed to naviagate to a page which seems to show images on it! Just click on a link below 'Themen' and work your way through, searching for pictures.

I can't wait to make Obi and cage like this, just need to get some inspiration!

Re: German Inspiration
I know that they use a typical spider plant, and also they plant herbs I have no idea which form of moss they use though. I am going to try and make something similar in a Maxi Duna Multy in the next month or so, but I guarantee it won't be as good as those!

Re: German Inspiration
It's probably best to just link to the thread with the pictures on, rather than posting them without the permission of the person who took them

One that I was looking at had cat grass growing in small pots so I've bought a packet of seeds to sow in small ramakin dishes and when they are ready I will bury the dishes up to the top in the sand area. Apparantly it only takes 3 - 4 days to germinate.
I did read about the moss but as it's not actually growing rooted into something it will likely die off after several months. It was moss you would buy from a reptile suppliers. Also you would have to mist the moss to keep it damp which might not be too good for the hamsters health
I'm also sure it also said that when seedheads developed on the spider plant they had to be removed as they weren't safe for the hamster to eat
Mmm now there's an idea....herbs

Re: German Inspiration
Cat Grass, sounds like a good idea! I did investiage moss a couple of weeks back but decided to go against it for those same resasons. You can buy it in reptile stores but they also told me there that it needs to be kept damp and that does not sound healthy for a hammy.
I just saw that cress is fine! People just buy it from the supermarket at 25p! It can be replaced weekly and is safe to keep in there all of the time. I plan on buying a chunk, placing it in a dish and putting it flush with his bedding so it looks like its growing

Re: German Inspiration
The German setups are awesome. If you type in 'hamster' on eBay Germany, the cages are fab ( bobs there's some usual types, but keep going through the pages), but only look if you really want to make yourself look inadequate and go crazy with jealousy
