Default Household Objects

Hi All,

Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of household items we could use as toys until Alfie and Oscars new toys arrive?

Thanks Katie x

I swear by egg boxes for them to sleep in! Mine love them! Also, empty Toilet and kitchen rolls work well

Absolutely. You can also sew a 'tube' of material onto the end of a toilet roll and then watch them fight to get through it.

Cake cooling racks tied together as climbing frames work, too.

Ooops, guess I better go and remove them from the cages then!

On a more serious note: Mine have any carboard things about, they love cardboard/plastic boxes with holes cut in them and as has been said - toilet/kitchen roll tubes are good. Ours also adore the gravy granual tubs!

I have these and similar tubs wired up onto the roofs of some of the cages. Some hamsters use them for beds, or food stores or look out posts. Mums often use them as a bolthole to get some 'me' time - until the babies learn to climb up to them and push her out!!

Well, make sure its nothing you want to reuse

With Brie, one of my girlies...

I gave her a wheel (simple clip onto the cage), a teabag box, a kitchenroll tube, a pile of tissue, loads of food and so on...

You wouldnt believe the nest that hamster constructed! She removed the wheel from the cage, turned it up and filled it with some nesting material, then put the box in the wheel, filled that with nesting material and then manage to get the tube into the box and wedge it against the bars at the top of the cage so the nest didnt fall over.

She then proceeded to put every single bit of bedding and shavings into the box and wheel and then wedge herself into it somewhere.

Amazing what you can do with household items!
