Default Bowser the bar junkie

Okay. So Bowser moved in to his gabber after making his nose so sore chewing his bars on his old cage that he ended up with a massive scab. And what does he do? Stand on the shelf and chew the bars!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! He obviously can't do it as much as his nose does seem to be getting better, but aside from the dangers of it, it makes a terrible racket. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm tempted to take the shelf out but he does love it so....

Edit: I've tried putting hardback books on the grill above the shelf, but he manages to push them out of the way

Well none of my gabbers have the shelves in any more but they still find a way to reach the bars and chew them....

It's a common problem unfortunately

Here's what I do:

Unfortunately they then start standing on the shelf to chew the hole in the clear plastic - two of mine have enlarged it to the point where I've panicked and removed the shelf. I now firmly tape a 2p piece into the gap so they can't chew.

I will beat them

We put ceramic tiles over the shelf area and then weight it down with heavy books so they cant move them. They usually stop trying after a few weeks unless they can get a grip and acrobat along the cage roof to a clear bit
