I need some help from UK
I've tried to look and I'm thinking about keeping one of my hamsters or getting one down the road but I don't like any of the US cages.
I know I could make my own but I was wondering if any of the companies over there would internationally ship to the US.
I know I could make one but I'm curious to if this is possible as well.
I would even possibly be willing to get it from someone in the UK if they let it ship over from the postal service itself. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Depends on my options

Little Pet Warehouse will ship to the US, might cost you a bit though. You could also try looking on eBay and see if anyone would be willing to post one to you.

Re: I need some help from UK
I would look at ebay or preloved (if you have it) though the shipping will be quite expentive.... All of my cages are second hand so I got them really cheap, but they had never been used, so it lowered the overall cost alot. Some online website do deliver to the US though i am pretty sure that savic and ferplast don't, though i will have to double check that.
How would you feel about making a bin cage? I made one and it was really great fun plus I found that once I have made mine I felt really proud every time i looked at it, a real sence of achivement... You would need to buy at least a 65 quart bin though a 90 quart would be ideal. Also you could proabley buy it more locally.
Have a look at diyhamster.webs.com/bincages.htm
Pros:
- Easily transported as lightweight
- Can be extended
- Keeps substrate in
- Cheap
-Comes in many different sizes
-Customizable
Cons:
- Can have poor visibilty
- Plastic can crack when cutting holes for the mesh
- Can be chewed
-Not completely chew/escape proof (unless made correctly)(My last hamster has never escpaed from her bin cage so it is unlikely your hamster will)

Re: I need some help from UK
I have thought about Bin cages but I am a bit iffy about them still currently. I know if they were sturdier I would definately get some from my gerbils because of the bigger depth but they will chew right through the plastic.
But from that knowledge it makes me leery even with my hammies.

Re: I need some help from UK
I never have any trouble with my bin cage.... but I get that they are not for everyone!
Ok then, have you had a look at the bargain hamster cage thread.... they have found lots of cages on ebay and at discount prices. I would have a look on there.... I can't really see a way around having to pay P&P though, I can only see that you can lower the overall cost by buy a dicounted cage.
I would start by checking out these and seeing if they will deliver to the US for you and how much for. You might find somthing that wasn't to expenive.

Re: I need some help from UK
I know that you can order a Zoozone 2 from Canada from this site.
Hamster Products
I already sent an email inquiring, so I know for a fact that they ship to the US. Unfortunately, the deciding factor for me was the shipping...it was even more than the cost of the Zoozone 2 cage!!!! I'd really love to have one someday, but it was way too expensive to get it here
I, like truffle, LOVE my Syrians bin cage, but you are right truffle, they are not for everyone. My syrian doesn't chew much at all. I have a 110qt Sterrlite bin that I bought at Big Lots for $7.99. I used cheetah print Duck Tape & neon colored cable ties to decorate it.

Re: I need some help from UK
If you wanted to adapt something and don't like bin cages... You could always adapt a rabbit hutch The US has some that look great for it! And it gets you a gigantic cage for way less than you'd pay otherwise.
(Note - I don't actually expect anyone to take me seriously on this, is great if you've got the space though)
Alternatively yeah, little pet warehouse should ship I think.

Have you an objection to tanks? I am jealous of US tank sizes and would love a 40 gallon breeder or something
Other than that, there's the Kevin 82 and the Ferret Kit 100 (which is apparently the same as the Mamble rat cage we get in the UK), both available in the US without the need to ship from the UK

Re: I need some help from UK
I currently have the hamsters in tanks but I wanted to look at wire like cages as well because they are lighter.
I have thought about the rabbit cage before but I thought the wireing was too wide and the hamster would just squeeze through.
I've debated about "coating" one in chicken wire though.
I have had to use it before when one of my gerbils got loose for a few days and I had to reintroduce my girls. The hamsters were actually in their split tank for a little while while they were babies so I could slowly condition them into being separated completely.
Though that was for a short time since that tank was a emergency split and was too small for living quarters for 4 baby hammies.
-----
I've added the ferret cage to my wish list currently as a outline. So I have that to fall back on.
-----
Curiosity question because most of my experience comes from my gerbils and they gnaw plastic like crazy and anything they can get their teeth into in general.
How often has a hammie escaped/chewed on their bin cage?
I'm also looking at changing my gerbil's home eventually as well they are in a 15 gal tank at the moment and I got 2 sisters in there.
The hamsters have their own tanks 10 gal. And 2 are in Crittertrails =_=.

Re: I need some help from UK
You can re-mesh rabbit hutches though - replace the mesh with a better sized mesh
Hams don't often chew out of bin cages. One of ours did try to once though...
