Re: Alaska hamster cage
We ended up having to do the same thing, they're both together now, complete with hammies! Rex isn't fazed at all and is happily zooming round on his flying saucer, but his brother Cookie (snap!) has a much more timid and nervous personality so although he's done a bit of exploring, he's currently sleeping in the tube we've zip-tied to the bars I'm hoping he'll settle in soon, he's got a new wooden house to sleep in, which I've added some of his old bedding too, but I'm still worried he'd prefer his little old cardboard box!

Re: Alaska hamster cage
I'm glad you got the cages together in the end! I'm sure that your Cookie will settle in soon! Maybe he fell asleep in the middle of exploring? Mind you, it wouldn't surprise me if he looks for his cardboard box - hamsters can be very awkward and stubborn at times!

Re: Alaska hamster cage
Well, it's been a week since I moved Cookie into her new Alaska cage and I'm happy to report that she has settled in really well There has been no sign of bar chewing so far and she quickly learnt where the front door was and begs to come out from there every evening. Im going to leave all her toys in there at the moment, as she uses Everything and seems so happy! I'm really glad I bought her the Alaska. It remains to be seen if it will be as hard- wearing as more expensive cages, but there is nothing that seems fragile at the moment, so I am hopeful!

Re: Alaska hamster cage
Thanks, I was worried about bar chewing as Cookie has never been in a barred cage before, but she seems to prefer stripping the bark from all of her wooden toys instead, which is a relief! Hopefully it will continue that way!

Re: Alaska hamster cage
Thats good though i understand why you would be worried as it will be Houdini first bar caged as well so hope he doesn't take a liking to the bars! x

Re: Alaska hamster cage
I'll keep my fingers crossed that Houdini behaves when he gets his new cage!

Re: Alaska hamster cage
I have Pickles in the Alaska now and Autumn in the Barney and I must say the Alaska is just as good as the Barney! In fact I actually prefer the Alaska! It is sturdy, nice to look at and good sizing!! And all for a great price!
