I think it the postage that kills it. I was lucky enough to find a used HH for 60$ and 2 brand new for 75$ each. The owner of the pet store wanted to get rid of it (he had bought a closure sale somewhere). But besides that, you can only get them on special order and it'S 200$ !!!

U.S. isn't as bad as Canada to be honest. Here, it really is a nightmare....! Besides Zoo Zone 2, I cannot think of another suitable cage.... I have a rate cage, 2 ferret cages and 2 of the Hamster Heaven for my Syrians. They are all connected to other cages. NO decent hamster cage available !

Just read this thread.....Guess I'm not the only one in the US searching for one of those great cages that are so widely available in the UK! I found a private seller on eBay who was willing to ship a Ferplast Mini Duna to the US, but after I won the cage & she went to ship it, we discovered that it would have cost about $110 to ship & would take about a month to get here! Crazy!! Thankfully, she refunded my payment for the cage itself. I sent a message/email to Pet Playground about the ZooZone & shipping it to the US. We'll see....I know I have a few more options such as the Tamburino & the Kevin....

I am new to Hamster Central, and just read this for the first time.

Cages in the US are VERY expensive, hard to find and if you look at floor space per dollar many of the fancy plastic things (ZooZone Duna etc.) are ridiculously expensive. I have always kept my hamsters (dwarfs) in aquariums. Either a 20 long or 29 high. Same foot print, the 29 is taller. "Critter Tops" are easy to find for 10. 15 & 20 gallon sizes. The 29 high allows me to build 3-4 levels for them to run up and down between.

PetCo right now has a sale on; $1 per gallon, up to 20 gallons. The 40 breeders are on sale for $120. That's the best price I have seen for those in years. I am trying to decide if I can afford two 40 breeders. I only have 1 hamster right now, but I would like to have a second.

$120 for 40-gallon? I hope you mean $40 + tax on a sale Yes, PetCo's dollar-per-gallon sales are great.

No, the 40 gallons are marked down to $120 from $180. So, it would be $120 + 6% tax.

Nothing over 20 gallons is included in the dollar sale. No other shapes either, just rectangular.
