Hmm, I was wondering who had a factory and a team of workers in their back garden!

I'll check tomorrow for a factory - if I find it, you can have it.

How about another idea - what if a group of us were to contact the main cage manufacturers and tell them how devastaed we are that the Rex is going and ask them if they fancy making their own tank cage of simillar dimesnions?
They don't have to copy the Rex - a tank cage is a tank cage is a tank cage, as long as the size is right I'd buy it.

same here. one with a lid that hinges completely open would be good, too. but not if it snaps off after use though, like the rodys do. I'm also gutted about the lux as i use those for single winter whites, although the Really Useful Box is good for WWs too, but it's on odd shape. I always just throw away all that rubbish that comes with the lux, so i wouldn't be bothered if that wasn't there!

Yes I'd like a hinged lid as well, far more practical than the Gabber actually. I'd like some sort of shalf area in the cage but it doesn't have to be like the Gabber shelf - I'd actually prefer a shelf at one end with plastic above it where they can't reach the grille!

yeah, like just half of the top is a grill or something. although ventilation could be compromised there.

yes definitely a shelf where a large (ie normal to us but huge to manufacturers) hamster would not be able to reach.
Also I like the fact that the Gabber splits in two easily - but hate the fact that the hamsters can reach to chew on the plastic area and clips - some sort of amendment to the design that allows the clear perspex part to be smooth all the way round to stop them gnawing this as well would be great.
Hey think we are cooking on gas here design wise - I would love to see some canny 'dragons den' type person steal the idea and get funding to make millions. I'd just be happy to add a few more pounds into his pocket if it was as good as we want it to be!

The best lid I've seen on a cage so far, has been that of the Savic Rody.
It might not be perfect, but as a 'garage industry' solution, we might consider converting bins to our specs - that's possibly the closest we can come to building our own cages, to our own requirements, this side of moulding equipment.
