I feel these commercial pet beddings are a bit of a rip off when there are bigger, better things on offer online and locally like Aubiose. Supreme are probably pushing yet another dusty bedding like Carefresh only under another brand name. I wouldn`t waste my money on them. Anything pet shops seem to sell these days is dusty or over-priced for what it is. Hemp bedding (but not Hemcore) for me are the best out there in terms of price, safeness and usability, although some people have had an allergy to hemp, but they probably had allergy issues already anyway so would find they were allergic to other beddings also.

I found I am allergic to Aubiose & I do have allergy issues anyway.

BUT

I am not allergic to Megazorb, Shavings or Finacard & the first two are a little dusty. So this brings me to think that if I can cope with the dust in the Megazorb & shavings there must be another reason why I am allergic to Aubiose.

Since Jan developed a severe allergy to shavings I am now very wary of using anything wood or plant based & am using paper instead like Megazorb & Finacard.

The Aubiose really has a very strong smell much worse than any shavings I have used. Even if I was not allergic to it I would not use it on this alone.

Shavings have been knocked because of the strong smell they have, well Aubiose is twice as strong & I would worry about them being in such a strong smell all day every day.

I agree that Supreme charge silly prices for there bedding but it being made of paper gets a hands up from me. Having said that I would not buy it because there are cheaper alternatives I.E Megazorb & Finacard.

Finacard has no dust what so ever, but the bits are larger than any other substrate, Megazorb is smaller bits, does very well with smells to the point of only needing to clean out once a month & that is because I think it should be done then rather than actually needing t be done, but does have dust.

There is no one product that is perfect, but I am hoping the Megazorb & Finacard will work for me combining the two or one on its own

I have the same problem Flamestriker. Alexanders take a lot of substrate so cost is a big consideration. Megazorb does a good job but sticks to the hammies fur as mine are all long haired.

Spot cleaning very large cages every few days saves a lot of resources. I still have nearly a full bag of the organic Siccofloor hemp I bought off Zooplus ages ago because I spot clean my two. I will have to use Aubiose from now on though as Zooplus seen fit to discontinue the organic hemp. Why is it that when you find a decent product, they pull the plug on it? A friend of mine is allergic to hemp in general, but she was fine with the Siccofloor and now she won`t be able to get hold of it which is a real shame.

Silver, you find that Aubiose has a strong scent? I`ve heard a few other members say this aswell, yet I don`t feel it`s half as bad as shavings which smell of fresh wood all the time. Aubiose does have it`s natural bagged smell but to me, it`s not overpowering at all compared to shavings or even Carefresh which stinks! Well...it does to me!

I take my hemp from it`s bag and let it air in a storage box before using it, so this hepls release any natural packing smells.

The whole house reeks of the Aubiose.

It's a horrendous musty smell. The bale has been put in the spare bedroom with bags over it & it has stunk out the spare bedroom something awful.

I mean major smell here, compared to Snowflake shavings which do smell a lot when you get it out of the bale but can not smell it once in the tanks.

There's no way I would put any animal on that. Just imagine there poor little noses in it all day YUCK lol

I doubt I'll be putting any of my hams in aubiose again either Silver. The last two bags I 'had stunk and nearly choked me to death as soon as I scooped some out of the sack. Yet, I've had three sacks before and no problems. I've some shavings mixed in with my finacard for now but not sure what I'll use when all that's used up.

It's making me wonder if Aubiose is getting the hemp from somewhere different than they used to? That could explain why people are getting a stronger smell

My plan is to try Finacard on it's own then try it mixed with Megazorb & see which Amy likes best.

I also have three quarters unused Snowflake shavings bale but since jan has become allergic to it I don't really want to use it with Amy. But my other thought was to mix Megazorb & Snowflake shavings

This is interesting... Our aubiose has never smelt that much. Woodshavings cause me to have coughing fits if we clean too many cages at once, which is part of why we switched. Just sorting out one of the hutches with shavings would've had me coughing for hours.

I guess it does show that different things work best for different people and hams though

I think this is the biggest
It expands to 50 litres, so it's not as big as the zorb bag

I do love zorb it's just my one hammie, Merlin had really bad problems sneezing on it, Theo did alittle but not as bad as merlin, but i'd had some really dusty bags as of late so could just of been bad batches

Thanks for all the replies guys, I agree it has a huge price tag, if it doesn't last at least 2 or 3 months then I wouldn't buy it again.
I really wanted to switch my hammies onto something different, my Rats have fina card, but my hams love to dig and they struggled digging in it alittle, and the zorb was making them sneeze, So I was abit lost what to try, I have a allergy to most wood shavings like pine, hemp etc, so I stayed away from trying those

This bedding does seem abit dusty when you first pull it out the bag but t he dust settling at the bottom of the cage isnt alot.

With zorb i'd always get the black soot, i think thats from when they burn it too kill mites and things?

and that used to get in my eyes and make my eyes red, and Merlins nose was getting red, on the CosiNdri he hasn't sneezed once and his nose is fine, it's really really a stange one, I just hope this bedding works out ok value for money, so they can have a non dusty bedding, they can dig in, and i'm not allergic too lol xxxx
