The weird thing is that she wasn't as bad when she was in a smaller cage (savic rody)!!!

I upgraded her thinking she would be much happier but the chewing is very bad now so whenever she's awake she's in the ball which is the only time she isn't chewing up her cage!

Im not sure whether to put her back in the rody (which i know is too small), or just deal with it and continue putting her in the ball when she's up.

Its a tricky situation indeed.

I don't have space for a zz2 I'm afraid

I'd try and squish in a ZZ1 I think... Or mesh over most of the inside of the imac with 6mm mesh or something.

Cinnamon has eaten her way out of the ZZ2 twice and as she is approx 300g that's large holes!! I have repaired them easily and the best stuff I found (thanks to having a builder for a boyfriend) is something called grip fil!! You can stick a patch on with it and it fills in the gaps and sets solid... (see my thread zoozone ideas and adaptations).

I have tried envy thing to stop her chewing the cage and the bars (like you my cage is stuffed full) but nothing stops her..

So if you are getting a new cage I would suggest a tank also.. Cinnamon is going to have to end up in one too.

Hope that helps.. (oh and my old hamster Tilly ate holes in my carpet!!!)

I'm glad im not alone, it seems some hams are just hell bent on chewing!!

OMG i cant believe a ham actually chewed its way out of a cage

I can see how meshing could work for barred cages, but the imac has plastic flooring so unless i meshed the floor that wouldnt work and i wouldnt want meshed floors.

All i can really do is keep putting her in her ball when she wants out, which is often!

Some nights seem to be worse than others for chewing.

Cinnamon ate through the plastic bottom tray!! Twice!! I couldn't believe it when my OH saw her about to gallop across the carpet.. The dog found her (he's scared of the hammy and tried to be her friend and this is a 56kg Rottie)!! So I patched it again but will have to wait and see.. She destroys everything.. Toilet roll tubes (I think she has some weird hatred for them), carpet, playpen, wood, rope, toilet, sandbath.. Everything...
I have noticed she is far more destructive on the day just before her heat.. The day she is on heat she goes into full on escapologist mode and attacks everything and then the next two days she wants to forrage all the time..
So no I totally sympathise cause you can't take your eyes off them.. Smudge doesn't chew anything!!

Good luck Lols

Oh and I still have two large holes in my lounge carpet where Tillifer decided to attack!!
