Update on the Pet Corner's Gabber status
I just got this message from Susan at the Pet Corner as I emailed her to ask if they were discontinuing Gabbers - I thought you'd all want to know the latest:
"Hi Justine,
Two of our suppliers have discontinued this cage (the only ones that stocked it) because of problems with the UK importer. One of these suppliers has a few depots and we are trying to get all the remaining stock they have - we have a very good relationship with our local depot - probably because of all the rex xls we have bought!
We have also contacted the manufacturer to see if we can get a supply of these from anywhere else in the UK, or failing that direct from them.
We will be doing our best to keep the supply of these going, as we believe these are one of the best cages around for hamsters.
Please pass the message onto your hamster people, if you can.
Have a great weekend yourself (though I believe its going to be cold!)
Kind Regards
Susan Houghton
The Pet Corner"

Lets hope they do manage to get stocks, but it may not bode well for local stockists if two suppliers are discontinuing them
I've been looking at the Zoozone 1s as an alternative - they are the same size, but dont have the shelf etc. But it would be nice to keep with the rexes.

oh that's good news that they're going to try and fight for them. the zoozone is a good cage, but for personal preference i like the gabber by far. hams love the shelf and i can't really be bothered fixing chicken wire to the lid that knowing my DIY skills will fall off and my hams will escape

I hope they have better luck getting them than my local pet shop - who have tried different suppiers and still can't get them. I think going to the horse (ie Italy) might be the only way.
If we knew who to contact we could start petitioning the makers - unfortunately the Gabber website I used to have the link for is no more - and I can't find anything for Montagna

The Ferplast Duna is the same size and type of cage but has a proper 2nd floor so is taller. I don't think they are that much more expensive.

i've never seen a ferplast duna any larger than the one i have, which is the same size as a rody, so too small for a syrian.

I think those are the Mini Dunas, the regular ones are the same size as the Gabber Rex. I don't know how easily available they are though, they used to have them at Shane Todd Direct but they've updated their site and they seem to have stopped stocking it, along with loads of other cages, which is a shame because the prices were great.

Justine, how about asking The Pet Corner if we can contact the manufacturer? If they've got the details they could pass on our messages about how fab we think the Rex is - in case they were thinking of discontinuing it.
I'm planning a trawl of all local petshops that I don't usually go in today to see if they have a Rex or two tucked away.

Here's the Duna - it's still there and is £27.95 plus postage!

I think its a problem with the UK importer rather than the manufacturer. The Pet Corner are going to contact them directly, as well as trying to find any other UK suppliers. I'll contact Susan again next week and see how they're getting on and if there's anything we can do to help.
Edited: I have no patience! I just emailed Susan and asked her if us contacting the manufacturer saying how great the Gabber is will help? I told her that if there's anything at all we can do, just to let us know. Fingers crossed!
