Default Favourite hamster toy that isn't supposed to be one?

Ok, with all the in-depth discussions we've been having I thought we should have a nice light topic.....

I am a very firm believer in walking round *any* shop and thinking like a hamster / rat / chinchilla - no, I don't walk round on all floors and sniff at people to determine their gender ....( )..... but I do look at any product and wonder about it's potential as a pet toy of some sort!

My favourites so far:

1) The humble storage basket

(mine are from Wilkinsons) - this is the grey upside down thing in this picture. It makes a great hamster-hideaway and being angled at the front Syrians can clamber on top of it too. You can always use it the right-way-up and wire it to a cage to form a shelf too. Very cheap.

2) Wall mounted display cubes

These I also get from Wilkinsons - they are on their website Here. They make great free-standing shelves and hamsters can play inside them too. You can use the three as a staggered shelf in a tank or cage or just use a couple. I have bought some hooks too to put in the bigger ones so I can hang toys in them as well. Herbert loves them and so do the spiny mice. You can see them in the Spiny Mice tank at the back of the pic here:

3) The Tea Cannister

Herbert sleeps in a metal tea cannister. He loves it and it was a real bargain! He used to use it as a larder but now it's his bed too. You can see it in this pic at the right-hand side - it's pale blue.

(I will post pics of the saga of Herbert's HH at some point too by the way, he loves the cage but I have had to modify it just a little, lol!)

So, does anyone else have any good ideas?

Those are all really good ideas Hanlou. I wish we had a Wilkinsons closer.
I'm not much good with toys, I used to cut up toilet rolls into slices and put a dog biscuit in the middle and wrap the slices around it to make a parcel. Used to fox Basil, trying to get his treat out but I haven't done it for a while. One of the things about having so many hamsters, its not so much fun making 12 parcels!

Ha! I have pictures of how to do this that I can share to make it clear what 'Basher' means!

Is that what you do Gill?

Nope it was Arti's last christmas present!! (hee hee hee). He hasn't got into it yet (hee hee hee hee)!!

No, on another forum, someone couldn't understand what I meant when I described this - so photos were called for. I decided to keep them and I will have an area on our new website for these types of things, so they were just 'there' when Basia mentioned it!

Great ideas Hanlou and thanks for sharing!
Basia and Spud's Mum, i think i may try out the treat ball idea, that looks pretty interesting!

I havent really got anything i can add to this, i use the normal toilet roll tube and let the attacking commence
I did use an egg box upside down with the bottom cups cut out for my chinese and they loved it.

Oohh! Like the loo' roll idea.....

*Goes off to demolish a loo' roll for Herbert* :P

I do use an eggbox and stick a few seeds and little treats in that occasionally too. It keeps Herbert busy for a while - I do this with the ratties and degus too.

I love Wilkinsons!! It's a great place for all kinds of things!

That's really clever I'm gonna give that a go! It's really hard to keep them all entertained so I'm open to suggestions!
