I would try your local place again, because I have had smelly and non-smelly from my local supplier, and it depends on how the distributors store it so sometimes I get a good bag and sometimes not, but I just accept it.

Also microwaving it takes the smell away as I do this just in case of mites

Oh OK, that puts my mind at ease. I really haven't noticed any smell, but I do clean out their wet corners frequently.

Good luck on fiding the megazorb - maybe you should ask to smell it at your local supplier (if the people are friendly).

Souffle imagines Holly & Mollz 'Please may I sniff your Magazorb'

I do not think the aubiose is that absorbant actually bit I do like it for Napoleon as it does not tangle his fur. Pophammy wants to move back to shavings so I think we may do that once the bale is finished as it does worry me regarding 1) Mites and 2) Bacteria such as salmonella etc which could be on it from say bird droppings in the fields. I dont think I could microwave the amount we use If you are having success with it though Mollz I would go with it. No bedding will suit every hamster and owner so you need to find what suits you and each individual.

LOL! I can see your point

I am really happy with it at the moment, but we'll see. I have a problem with woodshavings as they affect me quite badly - making me itch and wheeze if I spend too much time near them. But I will go back to them if I'm not happy. Have you had any problems Souffle?

This is the first time I have ever tried using anything but shavings Mollz. I have never had any issues ever with it in 35years of hamster keeping except for the long hair tangling issue. I still prefer the colour and smell over anything else personally

To be honest, if I can't find any fragrance-free Megazorb, I'm thinking of using shavings again - for our SH's and LH females at least, I do need to find something else for the LH boys

I used shavings for my rabbits for years without any issues - all my rabbits lived over 7 years and not one ever had respiratory problems. I'm definitely going back to shavings for the piggies - Aubiose is just too smelly even immediately after cage cleaning (I clean the obvious wet areas daily and do a full cage clean every 3-4 days).

I might go back to the farm and have a sniff of their Megazorb then ( ) but I'm not too hopeful really as the whole place smelt very horsey. I wonder if the place Sue gets hers from does mail order?

It may not even be the place but the acual batch of megazorb and what it is made from. (What is it made from?) I can always tell whos hamsters are kept on it as they do have a distinctive smell about them to my nose.

It's a paper pulp isn't it? (she asks pathetically unsure ).

I know what you mean - but the lot that Bean arrived on had NO SMELL AT ALL - and neither does this new lot from Sue at BVH - I don't get it, it's PERFECT

Wood pulp - is it Carefresh that is paper pulp then?

Of course the really ideal thing for me would be if Carefresh suddenly went down in price to about eight quid for an Aubiose-sized bag
