Default What mesh for ZZ1?

Sorry am being a bit lazy not searching the threads but am short on time.

I'm hoping to collect my new rescue hamster a syrian on Thursday and have a ZZ1 cage but it's not meshed yet.

I have not got a clue with DIY jobs so hoping I can do this. Also stuck as only DIY store a small hardwear shop by work is out of stock of small mesh. I can't get to any other shops by Thursday either but might be able to get my parents to go to B&Q or the Range.

I don't own wire cutters only scissors! Can anyone help me out and say what size/stuff to buy?

If I can't get any mesh I can't risk escape/injury so would have to use a smaller cage until I get mesh - he's in a smaller cage in the rescue foster home at the mo so I'm sure another couple of days would be ok in smaller cage but ideally I'd like to get him straight in his forever cage!

I've also got to try and find somewhere for a wheel with fast delivery - going for a wodent wheel or a Kylie/Karlie wheel I think it's called - depends what fits in a ZZ1 best.

I need to get organised here as out of megazorb too so until I get an order out which will take a week now I'll have to use shavings that I'm not really keen on but he's on those now.

Thanks Alison

1cm square mesh is perfect (or 6mm square if you'd ever want robos in there and wanted to be careful)

Bought in sheets from places like B&Q/Garden centres e.t.c.

One sheet should be enough unless the sheets they sell are really small.

Wire cutters would make the job a heck of a lot easier if you could get them though.

I finally did mine a couple days ago and it was easier than i thought. I got my mesh from homebase for £5.29p. You can also get the100 cable ties for £3.79p. I saw today wilkinsons sell the mesh too but in a roll. I still prefer not to have a meshed cage but for the size bars it had to be done.

Alison, I would advise against the roll mesh as that was all I could get locally to begin with, but made the trip to B&Q after for a panel instead as the roll was a nightmare! Was very sharp and kept unravelling where I had cut. The panel from B&Q was a little more than Homebase and was £6.48 I think. And Kyrilliondaemon is quite right, wire cutters will make the job much easier and I'm sure you can pick them up quite cheap!

Thanks everyone, really helpful, will see if parents can get me a sheet from B&Q and some cable ties and even some cheap wire cutters maybe. I guess I could always ask the chap next door for help (he kindly put my rabbit 6 foot hutch together when he saw me struggling and when they had only just moved in so might be able to help)

I guess if I can't get any I can use the small spare cage for a short time.

Typical I hardly go out and now I have a leaving do tomorrow, and my birthday do's this weekend and will collect hammy features Thurs after work, head home and got to go to slimming world too that night as not been for a few weeks so got to go - I shall run there and back in under an hour as don't want to leave the little one but to be honest they do need to settle in quietly.

I wil have to use the smaller cage for a while, hammy hopefully arriving tomorrow but I am just unable to get mesh - hardwear store by work can't source me any and I can't risk injury in the ZZ1 without mesh.

I can't drive so can't get to Homebase or B&Q - earliest would be next weekend as in 4th March one. Work is so busy I can't get a chance to get to Wilkinsons either for cable ties and toys.

At least hammy is in small cage in rescue so won't mind a small cage for a week or so until I get this mesh panel - can't find what I want online either as until I go I can't really picture what it is I need.

Just hoping the market pet store in Birmingham market has wodent wheels - got to work out what size is best for a zoozone 1 cage.

Feel guilty my new syrian will be in the same sized cage as my Chinese for a few days

Is this the kind of thing I need?

B&Q Mesh Panel (L)0.9m, 52010B

Mesh Panel - Gates & Metal Railings -Gardens - Wickes

B&Q says out of stock, I don't think there is a Wickes near me so I shall have to see if they do small orders by post.

Thanks, shame B&Q are out of stock and there are no Wickes near me £5.95 a bit steep for postage but might have to try it.

Never realised it would be this hard to find somewhere that sells mesh and those cable tidy tie things! Too much stress before I even attempt to fix the mesh on
