Ah... Good luck. I didn't think mesh was that hard either
Ebay is great for cable ties though! 99p for 100 including delivery so thats sorted for you. I can't believe our local garden centre has mesh and then someone with a B&Q within reasonable driving distance can't get it... We went to B&Q recently and it took 2 hours to drive there lol

Fixing the mesh should be easy though, even if its difficult to get the mesh. Oh and er... One note that I don't generally advertise but might help you, mesh doesn't have to be the orthodox stuff from B&Q e.t.c.
When we planned our syrians bin cage we knew we'd struggle for items, couldn't get mesh (the garden centre needs a car and we didn't have access to one at the time) and couldn't find it online sensibly so we went with making do more than most would.
Scamp's bin cage actually used to be meshed with morrisons cooling racks that we'd normally use to let cakes cool lol. I checked the bar spacing and it *just* works for an adult syrian, so we went for it. Am sure there'll be other options for mesh too, we just need to think of them...

That made me laugh as i used to have the cooling trays and actually thought about getting some more and using them.I got my mesh at homebase and travelled with it for 4 hours on four buses in two different directions at either end of the day to hospital!

lol it worked fine! We only changed it because she was being a silly bar-chewer and we figured smaller mesh might help put the daft rodent off... (It doesn't, at least not 1cm square anyway.)

Well done on that much work for your mesh too!

(Proof of Scamp and her cooling-rack-mesh and chewing is attatched to this post lol)

lol she'd had the cage ages by then, we did try and find a cause but it was just her habit of bar chewing. Now if she chews it'll be wanting more cake though I'm sure lol
Its her birthday in about a month though, we'll sort something else for them all then

Thanks for ideas, it's daft I know I have a B&Q & The Range in a town 6 miles away but this week has been so busy work wise and I have been out nearly every eve or working late so not had chance to get anywhere! Am impressed by these journey's to get mesh!

I don't drive so can't pop anywhere after work either.

Tomorrow I'm off for my birthday lunch with friends to Birmingham - I'm thinking I'll try the indoor market as there is a hardwear store thare that is so packed with everything he might have a sheet of mesh. I also plan to stock up on toys if the big pet stall has any hammy ones.

If not will see if I can get Mum to take me to the big garden centre Sunday morning as they could well have mesh and have a good pet centre.

I'd almost rather buy a new cage that does not require me to mesh it as I hate DIY but it seems daft not to use the ZZ1 that is sat i the garage.

Might have to buy a ZZ2 for my elderly guinea who is coming on holiday at Easter with us - which then might be handy for hammy, depends if I can fit ZZ2 on back seat of car and get myself in there too - if not I need the ZZ1 (ok any excuse to upgrade to ZZ2 for hammy!)

Oh don't worry... The B&Q trip wasn't for mesh lol
We wanted to go to the area for tesco (hamster food), B&Q (plastikote - for the hams), P@H (a good branch where I could get ham toys) and the sake of a nice trip out really. We enjoy days out exploring so camarthen seemed a good place since then we could get more ham food (we mix tesco with one we can get locally/online), avoid plastikote postage and explore a big pet shop again too

Good luck in the indoor market tomorrow, and meshing really isn't as bad as you'd expect so I'm sure you'll be fine once you do it.
