Aw look at her little face peeking out there. I'm pretty sure she can't get mites from a wood cage. The sore eye sounds like it might need a vet visit - she could have an infection and need antibiotics. The vet will also be able to say whether she might have an allergy or mites. If you use wood shavings it is possible she could have an allergy to those. Her wood cage is a great habitat. I think shavings are not the same as solid wood though, but it is possible, if she's allergic to wood, it could be an issue, and that would be a shame. I think you need vet advice. If it is an allergy, you could seal the wood (paint it with plastikote eg), but I'd wait and see what the vet says and rule out mites first.

I have used lots of different cages over the many years but prefer glass tanks and exo terra glass vivariums.

Wow! Now that is a home and a half lol. Blueberry looks so happy in it, but I agree with Serendipity about the vet visit about her eye.

I did use a glass Exo-Terra terranium for one of my previous hamsters, Chaos, and she absolutely loved it. I keep 2 corn snakes at the moment and I am planning on giving my smaller one, Aztec, a bigger vivarium when I move bedrooms in June.

Cookie, my newest Syrian, is in the Barney Cage that Serendipity mentioned and posted a link too, but I am (half) thinking about possibly buying either another Exo-Terra or Vivexotic Vivarium for her as well as I find that the front access on the Barney is tiny and she loves making mess outside of the cage lol.

Thank you guys, I think she likes her habitat too and I don't really want to change it, if I don't have to. We have seen the the Vet, he doesn't think that is an allergy, but as he said with those small animals anything is possible. She got injection and she looks already better. Eyes are still red but she is scratching less, and the eyes are fully open. I really wish she will get better. I like vivariums, specially the one with the cupboard underneath for all Hammy things. They look good and they quiet expensive, but I am not sure how they work- in the 4 store Vivarium are levels connected? What ventilation it has? Is that better, filtered air? what cover it has? :O
