Default Does anyone else use these wheels?

Just wanted to tell those of you that aren't aware about Sharples N Grant Flying Saucers for their hamsters. They are even quieter than Silent Spinners. It's on a stand but it doesn't move along the cage floor as the hammy runs like some do. I like it *almost* as much as Wodent Wheels LOL. Great though, if you are a bit limited on space heightwise.

I got the small one for my Robos, and they love it! I couldn't really see how it would work- but it does! Basically, I was looking for a small wheel to fit in the base of my Flipper cage, (see review section for pictures), and I found the Flying Saucer at my local Garden Centre.

You can buy it from http://www.ukpetsupplies.com. Enter 'Flying Saucer' as your search text.

It's £2.99 for the small size, (for dwarfs), £3.99 for the medium, (for hammys), and £6.99 for the large, (for rats and mahusive hams! LOL). All the measurements are on their website.

Here are my two Robos sitting on theirs. Everytime I tried to take a pic of them running, (which they insist on doing together even though they have two wheels!), they stopped to look at the camera!

Oh that is such a cute picture!!!

I've recently seen these on another forum and have to admit that, like you, I couldn't see how they'd work. It's great to hear that they do work, maybe I'll think about one for my new robo

BTW, if your wodent wheels move around when your hamsters run on them you could clothes peg them to the bars on their cage (am I right in thinking yours are in Cambridges?) or - what I do in my Cambridge - fold up several squares of kitechen roll and put it under the substrate where the wheel will stand which helps to stop it moving (if your hamster deosn't nick the kitchen roll for his bed!).

That looks interesting, as my winter white can't seem to get to grips with his wheel (even though it is a small one, he keeps wedging it up with shavings aswell, this might work better.

Holly- Yeah mine are in Cambridges' and I cable tie their wheels to their cages!! Hee hee! And mine would nick the toilet rolls for their beds. They're unfortunately not the brightest crayons... LOL

Catja- yes it would solve your shavings problem! The good thing is they can't empty their pouches into their wheel and then rattle it around!

I bought one but my hamsters can't work out how to use it. I have tried it with Pudding, Truffle and Runty and they all go around a couple of times and fall off.

I have seen them quite a lot over the years and like a lot of you wondered how they would work I have never owned one, and wonder if they work okay for Robos because they are so light, but wonder just how they would cope with a hefty Syrian?
