Re: Wood??
emmaandbutton thats a good list.
I know sometimes people say pine is no good, but kiln dried pine is the same as the woodshavings you buy. Once it has been kiln dried, apparently it gets rid of the oils and is fine to use. I use it all the time in my cages to make shelves from and its been great!
Has anyone noticed that on pet shop toys, they craftily say 'Natural Wood' and dont tell you what it is!!

Did you find out anything new as to if drift wood could be used?

Re: Wood??
Yes, driftwood is a safe wood for hamsters (mopani is questionable).

Re: Wood??
I was told that mopani was unsuitable because it had high levels of colouring or dye or something.. oak bogwood etc is Ok I believe.

Re: Wood??
I've been reading lately and most fruit tree branches seem to be safe so long as the fruit isn't a stone fruit (like cherry), ash is supposed to be safe, aspen and also birch (though some say that they bark should be taken off, others say it depends on the type of birch).

Re: Wood??
I'm pretty sure that grapevine is fine
We've always avoided mopani though as without confirmation that its safe it seemed like a risk we didn't need to take.
