Default Bedding Question

Hi Everyone

Apologies if this question has already been asked but i did have a search and couldn't find the answer.
I noticed on another thread that fluffy bedding is dangerous for hamsters. Why is this and what would you recommend instead?

I probably have a million of other questions but i just want to make sure i know everything i need to know and have the best possible housing for when my hamster arrives.

Thanks in advance

Don't feel bad for asking questions, we all learned it at some point! Fluffy bedding can be ingested by the ham and if they pouch it it can be a problem getting it out. It's also a problem if they swallow it as it clogs up their intestines (as has been known to happen before). It can also get caught around the hammy's foot and block circulation which can end in amputation. It's much better to avoid it! A perfect alternative is ripped up tissue/toilet paper. The hams love it, it's soft, cheap and safe. Hope that answered your questions.

Fluffy bedding can cause a few problems. If ingested it can cause a blockage in the intestines and cause the hamster to die. It can get wrapped around a hamster's leg and cut off blood circulation which can mean the hamster loses the leg.

Most people use torn up basic loo roll. X3 Cheaper and safe.

Also if you feel confused about anything always feel free to PM an experienced member for more advice if you're worried about putting up too many threads of questions already answered But we do always welcome questions.

fluffy bedding is the worst bedding to give them, im not too sure why but i know if they eat it then unlike ripped up tissue/tissue bedding, it wont sort of digest and pass though :L
it can also get tangled in their limbs which clearly isnt good, i know friends of friends hamsters who have died because of fluffy bedding >.<
i use ripped up (unscented) loo roll bedding you can get it in shops too but in my local shop its about £10 for a sack D: so i rip it up myself
J-cloth bedding is also ok , ive never tried it thoughx

Wow thanks guys for your speedy response
All very helpful, i had no idea just how dangerous it was! Will certainly never ever be using the stuff.
Will definitely go for the ripped up tissue/toilet paper, nice to read that all your hamster love it

Yea they love it! It's very soft and warm. X3 Izu has started dragging Carefresh into his igloo as well as toilet paper. I'm wondering if he likes it so much should I really go back to Aubiose...? Hmm. X3

I can recommend Safebed if your as lazy as me and can't be bothered to rip up a load of toilet paper . You can get it in 2kg sacks so it can really last a while.
