Default Dwarfs-Wire cage or Tank/bin

I am trying my Kevin,Dwarf hamster in a wire cage ATM,just beacuse I have never used a wire cage for any of my hamsters before. It's 70cmX40cm same as the tank he was in,But I'm not very happy with it at all,I also think he hates it.I'm going to change him back to his tank, the poor little boy.I think I might turn the wire cage in to a cage topper as it would otherwise e a waste,After trying a wire cage,I don't know how anyone can keep a hamster in something like that,It's a prison.Where as a tank is a home, sorry I'm venting like this. It's just I feel very strongly about this now,I always thought a wire cage would be great. How wrong I was is crazy.I can't comment on a syrain in a wire cage as I have never tries it but, dwarfs I feel should never be kept in a wire prison. They are worth a lot more than that.

:/ I keep Thistle in the Hamster Heaven and I also had to keep Pippy in a small wire cage for a few weeks for rehabilitation and they seemed to love them. Pippy is happy back in her tank now but only if the lid is off other wise she goes a bit crazy. Thistle however adores her cage, its going to be a shame when I move her into her wooden one. She loves to sit by the bars watching me and chattering, even with all of her toys her favourite thing to do is monkey bar and I find it much easier to interact with her through the bars than when she was in her plastic tank. I think maybe yours is just personaly preference of your hamster but it is a little unfair to say that keeping any dwarf in a wire cage is bad, dont you? Sorry Im not trying to be rude I just know that some of my dwarfies love wire cages and some love tanks and just wanted to point that out.

No I'm sorry,I was a bit harsh with my statements,I'f your hammy loves it's cage then I'm sure you right in keeping it in it.I think the thing with my hamster is that it has always been in a tank since birth even the place I got him from housed him in a tank.So maybe that's why.You said in your post it allows for more interaction between you two, that's the reason I got the wire cage,He's only been in it for two days now,do you think I should give him more time ? To settle in ?

Really that part is up to you, you will know you hammie better than anyone so if you feel he is distressed in the wire cage then I would keep him in the tank. Some just feel more secure in tanks, like my roborovskis they feel too exposed in wire cages so a tank is the best choice for them. I think if he has enough toys to distract him though and his scent is all over the cage then he might settle in easier. Feeding him treats through the bars might encourage him to like it too although if you do this they will instinctivly bite any fingers that are poked through bars thinking that they are food lol
