How long does it take?
How long does it take before your hamster/s stink out their cages?
I've only just cleaned the boys yesterday evening and now tonight there are about 50 poos strewn throughout the cage, sawdust flung outside the bars and their bedding all squiffy here and there..
Still love them tho

Re: How long does it take?
For Pudding, about 2 and a half weeks it begins to get niffy, so I normally clean her out every fortnight. For the dwarves, if I clean their pee houses every other day, they can go a lot longer.

Re: How long does it take?
I clean everything out every 2 weeks exactly and do some spot cleaning and emptying of sand and litter more often. My robos usually stink their homes up faster than Lucy, but I can only smell them if I stand directly next to the cages, sniffing. I don't know what it is with my robos, but I just can't keep their homes smelling nice. I think it's because they pee into the sand, and it doesn't hold smells well (so I clean it out every few days, but still). As long as the room they're in doesn't smell like anything, I'm happy.

Re: How long does it take?
My hammies don't stink at all . Choco has his pee corner at the back of his cage so I can't smell it and he usually poo's all over the place. Messy smells like lovely ham and the robo's smell like... Robo? I don't know!
However, if you are talking about the ''getting the cage all messy'' bit: Messy only needs an hour to make everything that I put neat completely undone. Choco usually throws his food everywhere during the evening after cleanout so he needs about 24 hours. The robo girls actually are neatest, half way through the week is when I'm starting to see tissue everywhere.

Re: How long does it take?
I am lucky with Darcey as she only ever poos and wees in her sand bath, so I just take that out every day and pick those bits out. No other mess over her floor and it always feels weird cleaning it out every 2 weeks as it looks clean.
Willow (Chinese) on the other hand wees and poos on her wheel and it becomes a horrible smelly, sticky mess the day after cleaning it! But the rest of her cage she manages to keep clean

Re: How long does it take?
With Hamchan, he only wees in his potty now, and poos either by his snack corner or in his nest. So I clean out the potty every few days, and clean up the poos every day. I'd clean out his nest once a week, and then change half the bedding every two, as he has quite a deep layer that doesn't get dirty so quickly.
For some reason, Evie's a bit whiffier though she's potty trained too. I clean out her potty every couple of days but will probably do a half bedding change every week.

Re: How long does it take?
Izuna-Wheatley is very very clean. He has piles of dirty things in his corners and everything else is kept clean. It's the strangest thing. X3
