Hamster Heaven tubes...
I have just got a Savic Hamster Heaven from eBay but it is missing the tubes and the penthouse. I think I am going to leave the penthouse off but now I am unsure what to do about the tubes?
I'm not sure whether to get some new tubes as Pepper doesn't seem to really like using tubes (doesn't use tunnels either) so maybe would be a bit of a waste of money so might just block them off. However, if maybe I had at least one of the tube holes in use going to maybe a sleeping room etc he might get use to using them. Anyway, I suppose my question is, what tubes are compatible with the Savic cages? Could I buy different 'adapters' so that I could use different tubes (for example I think the Rotastak tubes look bigger than others as they are one consistent size rather than, like the critertrail, being wavy (if you get what I mean?!?))
Anyway, any help regarding this would be much appreciated, I'm not moving Pepper yet, he seems content in his ZZ1 for the moment and I'm waiting until we move, and have more space, before getting dwarves to put in the ZZ1 and Pepper will live in the HH. So it's no rush to get anything

Re: Hamster Heaven tubes...
Ferplast and Savic tubes are compatible, but to be honest I'd just get two hole blockers - 9cm Savic Squares. The corners of the tubes are quite a sharp turn for a Syrian, and the tubes can get condensation (especially if the ham decides to wee in them). They're also a pain to clean.

Re: Hamster Heaven tubes...
I've taken the tubes off of my HH simply because I know what my hammies are like. They will move bedding into the tubes then pee everywhere and it smells disgusting when hamsters pee in tubes especially if it is a hot day. I dont really like the idea of tubes on cages anyway I think its better to have a few tunnels or tubes inside the cage which are easy to clean or disposable and like you said if Pepper doesnt really like tubes or tunnels there isnt much point in spending the money on them. You could buy him something else insted!

Re: Hamster Heaven tubes...
I wouldn't bother with any tubes at all.
I wish I hadn't put Dexter's on. I just accidentally knocked one bit of tube off and so I decided to remove them all hoping that Dex would just be ok in the rest of the cage (he sleeps in the tubes/penthouse but it gets smelly)
Well he freaked out for ages and I've had to put the tubes back on!

Re: Hamster Heaven tubes...
I agree with the others. I would use the blockers and have the nesting are under a shelf in the corner of the cage or a sleeping hut. I never understand why they ruin these large cages by puting holes and tubes in them. With a decent size wheel, a hamster does`nt need a few inches of tubing to add stimulation! That`s why I bought the Savic Mickey 2XL cage for my syrian as it does`nt have all the holes and tubes, just the same large drop down door on the front!
Congrats on your ebay purhcase though.

Re: Hamster Heaven tubes...
Thanks for your advise everyone!! I think I'll buy some of those blockers. I'm so excited about using the HH!! Will prob have to wait a few months, or I might move him over to that before we move and have the ZZ1 spare... I'll just see what happens I think.
Thanks again everyone
