Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
What bedding do you ise?
Thats really surprising that your getting stains that quickly, if you use an absorbant bedding and spot clean it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
Mainly aubiose, but I have a mixture right now of aubiose and shavings while I use up the shavings I inherited with Boris. I spot cleaned the pee corner last night and will do so every evening. Should make a difference!

Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
I found the vinegar worked quite well, but it has to be white (spirit) vinegar, use it undiluted and it doesn't have to be heated, just pour a bit into the cage and as someone else said, tilt the cage so the vinegar is all in the stained corner and covering all the stain. You will probably have to leave it like that for maybe 24 hours or even more, but it does eventually get rid of the marks.

Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
Thanks Holly`s Mum. I will even try placing some raw vinegar on the kitchen towel I wipe the pee corner with daily and then wipe it away. It might act as a good agent against the calcium taking hold rather than waiting to add the vinegar when doing a full cage clean.

Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
There was quite a bad stain in the corner of the old hamster heaven I had in the shed so I tried bicarb, then white vinegar and finished off with biological washing powder. I rinsed it well then was able to just scrape it all off with a sharp knife - good as new now.

Re: Urine staining in corner of cage base - How to remove?
If I ever get the white stain again, it will probably need a 24 hour soak as you say Jasmin. But spot cleaning it daily seems to be working! Pervention is better than cure as they say!

I also put a layer of paper down in the pee corner under the bedding, that seems to soak it up quite well and stop the staining.
