oh the wooden wheel we're talking about (i think!) is by karlie ^_^
Wonderland Exercise Wheel: Great Small Pet Accessories at zooplus

i like the look of it, but for practicalness, err no :P

i love the trixie 11inch wheel though if they do them in 8'' i'll get them for sapphire and topaz. not sure whether they do or not though :P

i like 6.5'' silent spinners for robos i feel they're too small (personally) for russians...

They do the Trixie plastic wheel in 8" inch mango I`m sure. I`m sure I`ve read a few posts where members have said they have the 8" inch version. It`s cheaper than the 11" inch version aswell and probably less clangy!

My 11" inch Trixie was attached to the cage bars and although it did`nt hit the cage sides, it did have a noticable `rattle` when Boris was running in it. Nothing too major, but glad his cage was in the livingroom at the time and not my bedroom!

The main difference with the Trixie plastic wheel and the wodent wheel security, is the way they are attached to their stands. The wodent wheel sits securely on a spindle that is attached to the metal bar/stand. So this gives the wodent wheel more stability when turning. The Trixie wheel relies solely on a plastic clip at the back to attach it to either the cage, or it`s metal stand, so because it does`nt have the same support through the middle like the wodent wheel, it means the wheel is more lilely to shake around.

That`s my input anyway!

oh right, see i have my trixie one just standing on the floor so it doesnt rattle ^_^
another thing i prefer about this is that the stand isnt so low andnear the actual wheel i fyou get what i mean? like the wodent wheel is so low it cant really be dug into the bedding :3 and as pumpkin likes digging a bit, sometimes the wheel doesnt spin as its so low :L
i find the trixie one does move a bit but i give it plenty of room around the edges so it doesnt bash anything. it has had plenty of use from mimi who couldnt live without a wheel and its still fine
maybe i just hate cleaning wodent wheels as i have to take the whole dam thing apart twice a week which isnt fun, as i nearly always loose the little wire clip thing -.- pumpkin uses his WW as a toilet, house sometimes (without bedding thank god), food storer which then gets stuck to the poo when he runs on it filthy little man ;3

I had to get advice on here about removing the `pin/clip` from the wodent wheel because it`s so small and tight, I was in fear of losing it! But using a fork is the way to do it. You just put one of the teeth of the fork through the pin and gently prize it up. This stops the pin flying away!

I do see your point about the gap bewteen the wheel floor and the stand though. It`s only about half an inch or so. I tend to just place a light covering of shavings/aubiose over it though just to hide the metal on the stand from showing. Boris does`nt seem too bothered by it and (touch wood) has`nt chewed at it! ....yet!

i tried to use a fork but it got stuck >.< i'll try use a smaller one
i tried to do that with the light covering of shavings but it doesnt work for me as pumpkin digs it further down with his weight i think the wheel also wobbles about when he's running on it which drives it further down so i always have to watch it can still run :P
thank god pumpkin doesnt chew the spindle mango used to, and mimi did when she had a wodent wheel :P although thats possible with the trixie one too XD
i might get a trixie one for pumpkin, i have to clean his WW so much -.- i dont know, i'll probably see what its like first XD
and sorry this has all gone a bit off topic with the trixie wheels ^_^ x

I will hopefully be ordering a senior wodent and if the currency converters arn't lying, it won't cost me much at all. The wonderland is out of the picture since Jack seems to find joy in staining Arrow's xD If I'm really unlucky I'll have to replace hers later on. Hoping Mum will let me order it

I have a Junior Wodent Wheel for my dwarf, and I use a different type of bedding under the wheel stand: hard pelleted bedding. Thin layer of bedding, then wheel stand, then another thin layer of bedding and a big very flat rock over a third of the stand area to keep the wheel in place. This way the wheel doesn't budge and doesn't rattle against the cage floor. I think carefresh / megazorb type bedding around the base, pressed down for thinness would also be good insulation (and a rock).

I have 2 of the Trixie plastic 11" wheels, and both started off being really silent but now they both knock and rattle really badly. I bought a senior wodent wheel as a replacement to the Trixies as they were doing my head in, and it is soooo much more sturdy and doesnt bash about like the Trixie. So you are not alone in your findings racinghamster!
