Default Wodent Wheels

I'm a big fan of Wodent Wheels and I know that many other 'rodent people' recommend them as well - I also know that getting hold of them in the UK isn't terribly easy - one website states a 12 week wait for the Junior (8") size. They also aren't cheap - the Junior sells for anything between 8 and 12 quid which is a quite a bit more than any other large size wheel sells for.

Well, I recently ordered a couple of wheels (for our prospective new hammy/s) and some spare parts direct from the manufacturers in the US. Even with airmail postage from the US, the wheels work out a bit cheaper than buying them over here and you can also order exactly which colour you would like (important when you have more than one hammy and don't want to get mixed up when cleaning equipment). They arrived in 7 days.

When I spoke to my 'contact' there and told him I'm planning on taking a wheel to Lymm on Sunday to show people who haven't seen them before, he said that, if there is enough interest, he might be able to allow me to place an order with 'bulk' prices, making the wheels even cheaper. I'm not interested in making any money out of anyone so will happy to pass on this offer to anyone on this forum as well

I don't know what the bulk price is for an individual wheel yet but will post it here when I do know. Retail price is $9.99 - a little over a fiver at the current exchange rate so even if we don't get them any cheaper for a bulk order it's still competitive compared to the UK online shops - some of these charge a lot for postage as well. You will also have to pay a share of the postage cost - the more wheels ordered the less the postage for an individual wheel will cost. If anyone is interested let me know - you will be able to choose from a list of colours.

Iif you don't know what a Wodent Wheel is look here:

Our hammy's LOVE theirs - and they are very quiet (so long as you put a little vegetable oil on the washers when you clean the wheel) - I sleep with one in my bedroom and it never wakes me up - I actually really like the patter -of-feet noise it makes!

If nobody wants one then fair enough - but I just thought I'd share this as they are very cool IMO

I love my wodent wheel. Just wish I had been able to choose a color too! Oh well, it doesn't matter really.

And this sounds like a great idea! I hope people take advantage of the offer ^__^

I felt the same - if you order directly from the manufacturer you can choose from black or white back/front plates plus one of about eight different colours for the running strips. The great bit is that you can order spare parts from them too - ie different coloured running strips - for a couple of dollars each ...perhaps if your's wear out or get nibbled...?

Now Mocha has green, Treacle has yellow and Custard has blue - makes cleaning easier that's for sure

I would be interested Holly. I might even need 3 as I too am seriously thinking about another hammy - if I see a long-haired male in the sale pens when I go to the Cardiff show he is definitely coming home with me . The only thing is can they be attached to the wire because I'm not sure a stand would fit in the Imacs.

They can't be attached directly to the wire - the stand is an integral part of the wheel. However the stand doesn't actually take up much room and I attach T and C's to the wire using a wooden clothes peg to grip the back of the stand. Mocha is in the Gabber cage now and I attach his to the plastic shelf also using a peg - works very well.

If you aren't sure they'd fit I'm happy to measure and take detailed photos for you ...I also might be at Cardiff

The Roly Jumbo fits but they really don't last long. Basil is quite heavy now and the hard plastic starts to fracture, they then make an awful noise. Sybil has the large Ferplast wheel which is working well for her at the moment but looking at her ears she is going to be bigger than Basil. If you can fit a Wodent in the Gabber Lux I would have thought it would be possible to fit in an Imac. Hope you can make it to Cardiff.

I should think if the Jumbo Rolly fits then a wodent wheel should be fine - what's the floor to ceiling height of a level of your IMAC? Are they both in IMAC's? I'll measure the height and width of a wodent wheel inc stand later today.

9 inches or 23 cms in you think in metric, with a fraction of space to spare.
Yes they both have Imacs, Basil has the basic Imac plus an extension. Sybil has just the basic Imac at the moment. When she is bigger I will get her an extension.
If I get another hamster I'm thinking something along the lines of a Gabber rex though because the Imacs are heavy and awkward to move and I do carry them from one room to another to play with them out of the way of the dogs.

The wodent wheel including stand measures 9 inches exactly - so it might just fit or be just too tight ....it would be fine in a Gabber Rex though. I've been looking for a picture of a wodent wheel in an Imac as I'm sure I saw one somehwere on the net but I can't find it so perhaps I didn't.

I think I'd go for the Senior size for Hammy.

Will they attach to the apperture in the Rex do you think? Or will it have to be free-standing?

Either way, I'm interested. I've never seen these before and they look great. Good find!
