Default Suitable for Dwarf Hamsters??

Thanks to Souffle and Pophammy I have just discovered the joys of Gabber cages

What I'm wondering is are they suitable cages for Dwarf hamsters? What about Roborovski hamsters? The bars have 8mm spacings but there's a gap of 1cm at either end of the bar panel.

If they are suitable which size (Lux or Rex) is most appropriate for Dwarfs? And the same for Roborovski's (I've read that they need lots of space as they are very active and not easy to get out of the cage for exercise). I suppose I'm thinking about a pair providing they get on well and I'm assuming they need as much space as possible?

Does anyone have Dwarf hamsters in a Gabber Lux or Rex cage?

Thanks!

PS I'm actually daydreaming about future hamsters this morning, not planning on getting any right now! We are actually looking for a breeder with a female Syrian with not much luck so far (time of year, I think) so I've just been pondering the possibilities

The bigger the better with dwarfs though I would say the lux would be fine for two. As to the bars I very much doubt a dwarf would get up there but I would not think they could squeeze out. Wait till the right hammy comes along. Remember the boys can breed for ages so wait for the perfect lady. Try to think what you want and dont just take one coz they are all so cute. It will be worth it.

Thanks Souffle, I've just been daydreaming ...I'm still looking for *the perfect lady* but I've been doing a bit of reading and, having never considered Dwarf hamsters before (as I love the look of Syrians, how easy to handle they are etc), I've realised that Winter Whites are actually very cute and generally easier to handle than Campbells. I also like the idea of more than one in the same cage, playing and sleeping together - but I do realise that it often isn't like that and they do need to be separated. Whatever we get I won't rush into it, don't worry!

A bit off topic but how long do the boys remain able to breed for? I know females have a limited breeding life.

My dwarfs are in a barred cage and the internal distance betwen the bars is 1 cm and they cannot escape.

My only reservation with the plastic tanks is the fact they could get very hot in the summer and cook the critters inside so placing them in south facing rooms could cause them to get heat exhaustion.

I forgot I'd started this thread - it's actually turned out to be very relevant as, if all goes well, we are possibly getting two new arrivals at the weekend . I won't say anymore yet in case it jinxes everything but we have the Gabber Rex ready and, if it happens, there will be piccies, I promise
