"Rodent enclosure"
Miscellaneous Products / TRIXIE JOY ENCLOSURE - Petstuffgalore
Has anyone had any experience with this "rodent enclosure" which is supposed to enable you to let your hammy run around on the floor with no danger of escaping under the furniture.
I have bought one for Holly but I am a bit disappointed - it is tricky to set up because the hooks keep slipping out of the loops joining each section together, and I can't seem able to fold it up easily as advertised - I must be doing something wrong!

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
I have the S.A.M Indoor/outdoor playpen which is very similar. I did have a problem with one of the hooks and it doesn't fold it very well unless you detach them all, which is a bit annoying.
It does the job (though Byers spends her entire time in there trying to escape through the bars!) but I was mostly disappointed with the actual space inside. I'll have to buy another one to give them as much as a 'free run' as I would like, and when they are £15 a go that's very frustrating!

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
I thought the same, it doesn't really give Holly very much more space than when I put her in the bath with all her toys - the only advantage is that I can have her in the living room with me and watch her.

Well that was a waste of money - she can climb out!

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
Yep there useless, they can climb over them in seconds usually, some hammies dont mind if they get occupied by toys but my Milo- haha NO he always wants to explore more than he's got !

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
If you're desperate to give it a try you could create a cardboard upward extension. That might stop her from getting out at least! :/

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
Yeah those playpens are useless.
Like you said they are tricky to set up and you cant fold them away, you just have to take it all apart.
My hamsters could all climb over the top. The dwarfies would squeeze through the gaps where the panels met. And my syrian figured out that biting and lifting up a panel would cause it to come out of the loops and he could escape!!
Stupid playpen!!

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
I bought a similar one from pets at home for Honey and within 10 minutes she had figured out how to escape so took it back for a refund!!

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
i've given up on playpens for my syrians lol, they can climb the fortress thing, the ball pit, cardboard... i think hamster-proofing your room is cheaper, and although takes longer, gives them much more room

Re: "Rodent enclosure"
They were selling these in tesco for £7.50, I bought one for mine, the syrians manage to escape quite easily but its great for lizzie, when I was using it for the syrians I duct taped carboard to the inside so the couldnt climb out, cheap and did the trick.
