Default Anyone have any experience with using velcro to attach the bottle?

I have a bin/box cage for my future Robos, and I don't want to have to make holes to slot the water bottles into like I ended up doing for my Russian, Olivia. I've heard of people using velcro to attach bottles to bins/tanks ... anyone got any experience with this? Does it actually work?

This is the water bottle I'd be using:

Ive got the same bottle as you & had such a hard time finding something that would stick & also withstand the hammy's climbing up the bottle.

After much money spent on different types of velcro I found this:

3M DUAL LOCK HEAVY DUTY VELCRO STICKY PADS BLACK 4 PACK on eBay (end time 14-Feb-11 12:58:42 GMT)

Its brilliant. Stick one side on the cage the other on the bottel & hay presto it sticks even with Dwarf hamsters climbing up it.

Word of warning though make sure you know where you want to stick it before you try because it REALLY sticks

You could make a support structure out of a wire coat hanger and hang that over the edge of the box (ensuring no sharp bits for hammie to hurt themselves)?

Some people even build a tower out of jenga to slot the bottle into, but I think the heavy duty Velcro is a brilliant idea! I might use it to make a interchangeable maize with some tubing and attach it to the box! what a great idea!

My velcro came off the inside of my aquarium, and was an absolute hassle.
I built a waterbottle holder out of dowel pins for sandy, and it' works great, would be really easy if you have a hot glue gun

or you could go for something like this
Gerbil / Hamster Water Bottle Holder for glass tank on eBay (end time 22-Feb-11 10:43:59 GMT)

I use vecro for my bottles, and I find that it works very well. I bought some ultra strong velcro designed for use outside, it wasnt very expensive, just found it in hobby craft. There are some pics here: Zoozone 1 - Review

I just gave up using the aquarium.
Sesame hated the noise of the velcro being unstuck anyway, she's really nervous

I use sticky-back velcro for most of the water bottles in my tanks. Although I only use normal strength (from Staples) I haven't had any problems. I stick the furry bit on the bottle rather than the cage so it doesn't get dirty when cleaning out.

Got the heavy duty velcro from a stationery shop and it seems to be working great so far I stuck the furry bit to the bottle as suggested, Vectis. And Silver, you were right - it really does stick!
