Re: What is missing from my cage?
My hamster toilet-trained himself in his sandbath; the wee sort of clumps in the sand, and is easily scooped out, so sand can be changed every few days. I use chinchilla sand - make sure it's NOT chinchilla DUST as this can affect hamster's respiratory system.
Supreme Selective Chinchilla Bathing Sand 1.5 Litre - my local pet shop sells it a bit cheaper than this

Thanks for the recs. re: sand and the toys your hammie likes, I ordered some items of Surrey Pet Supplies but I went for a 'Rodent wheel' rather than 'Wodent wheel' as this was all they sell...
I can't view that link about the wodent wheel, I registered on the site like it asked but it doesn't bring anything up - can you advise what it is please?
Re: the bedding, I put that 'safe' stuff in Herman's cage after cleaning it out etc. but it just doesn't look warm enough; when I came in to see him before work this morning he was just curled up on the TOP of the bedding, whereas with that fluffy stuff he was buried right inside it all snug and warm...is he gonna be ok??

Re: What is missing from my cage?
You could give him some toilet paper torn into strips as this is safe and if you give enough it will bulk up his nesting material so he can nest inside

I have two of those wheels for my Syrians, they are fab! They are 11" so it may not fit in your cage. How tall is your cage?
And the link was just someome asking on another fourm if anyone wanted a wosnet wheel as she was doing a bulk order but needed more people to buy one to make it worthwhile as she could not affford to buy all of them.

Re: What is missing from my cage?
For more cage ideas, this site is quite cheap so you could get lots of toys for Herman;
Reptile Food, livefoods, reptile supplies, online reptile shop, Exo Terra, Zoo Med, Pet Supplies, Hills, Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved,

D'oh, I feel really stoopid now! There is no way an 11" wheel will fit in my cage!!! I just got a bit carried away ordering things; guess I'll have to pop out to P@H today and just get a standard (but larger than the one he currently has) wheel for the time-being!
