Substrate suitable for digging?
I will be buying a Ferplast Novy 21 for Luna, I use woodshavings in her cage but I was wondering if there was something more suitable for them to dig in which I can put in the Novy tank?
PS - This is going to be attatched to her Hamster Heaven, not used as a cage on its own!

Re: Substrate suitable for digging?
if a Ferplast is expensive you could just make a bin extension?? You could use chinchilla sand, not dust but depends how much you use as this can get pricey

It's £30ish... See I was thinking about making a bin cage to attatch to it... I might have to give it a go

Re: Substrate suitable for digging?
Megazorb/Carefresh would be fine, as they can tunnel through it

Carefresh is such a horrible colour though, thats why I dont use it (stupid of me really )
Had a look for megazorb but I can only find 85L bags - I live in a flat and there isnt anywhere I could store it lol.

Re: Substrate suitable for digging?
10l from there ended up at about £12 for me though though, so isn't really economical.I bought a batch from there when the hams lived with the bf and he was in the same situation
arrived next day though,
but yeah, works out expensive >.<

I'm not too bothered about it working out expensive tbh, I just really wouldnt be able to store a massive bag. I've already filled my flat with stuff, its at bursting point

Re: Substrate suitable for digging?
I got Fudge the same Novy We use megazorb and she loves it - she's currently asleep in it in fact! It's fairly stable, I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago and Nappo gave a very interesting response: What's good for burrowing? I decided only to do that mix as a treat though as I can't keep 3 or 4 bags of stuff in the flat at once...

Re: Substrate suitable for digging?
I really couldn't recommend anything other than Megazorb it's the best substrate at holding tunnels.
