Hammocks?!?
I was wondering if hamster hammocks are safe because i'd like to get one for Pippa (my Syrian) but i have heard stories about them being ripped up and injuring the hamster. Do you all have hammocks in your cages? Do your hamsters like them? Which are safe and which are not? Thanks.

Re: Hammocks?!?
I had a hammock in Honey's cage but I ended up taking it out as she just wasn't interested in it!! Every hamster is different though so yours might love it.

Re: Hammocks?!?
I think it depends on the hamster really, some hamsters would just chew a hammock to shreds in minutes but some hamsters would love one But as pinkprincess said some hamsters will just not bother at all XD I made one for muffin out of kitchen roll and thick ribbon, she loved it and never chewed it

Re: Hammocks?!?
my 2 both have hammocks and love them but they aren't really chewers so they're fine with them, it really does depend on if your hammie is a chewer or not

Re: Hammocks?!?
I had too Take myne out.. My Hamster(Female Sryrian), Chewed it too shreds and whilst i nievly said i'd take it out in the Morning, :/ She got her Paw stuck and had too be kept it the Vet for 2 Days Her toes were all mangled and her foot was purple ! But she made a full recovery thankfully xx But i agree all Hamsters are different.. If your Hamsters a Chewer I dont reccomend giving it a Hammock, But if your Hamster doesnt tend too Chew i'd give it a Go But as i have said all Hamsters are different and if you do see any Signs of holes/Dangerous bits of material coming of the Hammock just remove it ? Good luck, keep us updated xx

Re: Hammocks?!?
If they do chew it and injest it it can get stuck in their digestive system and cause a blockage. SO just be careful, if she starts to chew at it I would remove it.

Re: Hammocks?!?
i made some flannel hammocks for mine ^_^ it took AGES if only id found the sewing machine earlier ;D i just sewed this thin bit of material onto the flannel so they could sit on it and added rope and it was ok
i just didnt like the shop bought fluffy things because pip and pop thought it would be clever to pull at it all (the fluffystuff) and make a giant nest in there -,- soi got worried and made this which i find better
