Question housing for me future robos...

Ok so I have decided that I am going to be getting a pair of robo girls. I have in my shed 2 savic rody cages which used to be home to 2 male fancy mice.

Now I don't think the rody is the best cage in the world but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of ways that I could connect the two together successfully without breaking them into pieces as I know I am not the only one to know the fragile nature of the rody...

Also the cages were cleaned but I want to clean them again as unfortunately one of the mice caught a type of mite (cant remember the name) and it wasn't pretty. I was going to soak in a bleach/water mix of about 50/50 for a few hours, this sound ok? and do you think it would be ok if i soaked the water bottles also and re-used them or just went n got brand new ones?

hm the only way I could think to attach 2 together would be with tubes through the holes at the top, but I doubt robos would be able to climb them...

diluted bleach would be fine if you soak it in that, thoroughly rinse it and then clean again with hamster safe cage spray and then leave to air dry?

I'm sure someone who knows more will appear in here soon enough though

With pairs of hamsters it's best to have a single cage (not two connected) with a single level to ensure they do not fight. I'd recommend something like the Duna Multy.

Moderator Tammy's site has lots of great robo advice
Oak Farm Rabbits and Rodents
She finds the rody fine for a pair so have a look at the site.
I think mites can live for some time in dormancy so you likely should get new everything including bedding / food /etc and any plastic toys and cages need well cleaned and rinsed. We use Vircon tablets dissolved as directed. It would be an idea to spray the area the mice were kept in with Johnsons house and cage mite spray to be safe.
Getting your pets from a breeder would be best as they are likely to be a bit tamer. What area are you in?

Joing cages can be tricky (and is really best avoided) as it can cause them to become territorial over each area which can cause fights. I have two living in a mini duna (similar size to the rody) at the moment (with no shelf) and its fine for the two of them. I find that if they have too many toys that causes fights too. I did have them in a duna multy but they were fighting so downgraded them to help them bond a bit better.
