We have one of these for our rats, they don't really use it though and it's a free range toy so they're always supervised. I think it's supposed to be a gerbil toy, and the plastic coating is there because the plastic sides are brittle; ours has a huge spider-web shatter in one side and we were glad for a plastic that we didn't end up with little plastic shards everywhere! Not very well thought out though I will agree; the sides need to be made of a softer plastic and not coated.

You're meant to peel the plastic sheet off - I have one of these for my Syrian and the plastic peeled straight off.

That is a dangerous toy! Your poor hammie could've eaten that.

I have a small one of these and i noticed just before i put it in with Dexter. I managed to get it all off but it too forever. It was a bit of a waste of time as he doesnt go near it.

I have the small mouse version, I found the plastic sheet and removed it quite easily.
Never had a problem with it, i think it was really nice for Peggy and I think Bacardi would like it too

Sorry to hear of your problem, buying it from soem places may be better than others, mine was from Netpetshop.
