Does anyone have a zoo zone and cats?
So Hugo is in a zoo zone and its a nice size for him ... he seems to like it.
But, does anyone have a zoo zone with cats in the house? I'm shutting the cats out of the spare room at the min, but they can open doors etc if they really want to. The more I keep the rodents away from them, the more they are obsessed with getting to them.
The gerbils are in 20 gallon tanks with vivarium lids, which are as cat proof as I can get ... and I'm thinking of getting Hugo the same and then letting them in the spare room when I'm in. That is, unless others have managed to cat proof their zoo zones and can provide some advice on this matter.
I really need to get everyone living harmoniously together otherwise the hubby is gonna get very testy about the cats digging up the carpet to get in the spare room. Does anyone have this problem and how do you get around it? Do you think the tanks would be safe enough?

Re: Does anyone have a zoo zone and cats?
Ive always meshed zoozone bars and once done the actual barred lids are pretty cat safe, better than a lot of cages tbh. My cats tend to get bored pretty quickly when they realise the hamsters arent scared and they cant get to them, one precaution I would take is to make sure they cant push the cage off whatever its on as this would obviously be very dangerous to the hamster and the cage might break open.

Re: Does anyone have a zoo zone and cats?
Thanks. Do you think the weight of two male cats might crack the cage? It seems quite sturdy but I'm worried they might start trying to sit on it. Do you leave yours on the floor or on a dresser? Sooo many things in my head could go wrong ... maybe I'll just get another tank ... sigh ... all would be well if I didn't love cats and hamsters so much. Not the best combo

Re: Does anyone have a zoo zone and cats?
i don't have cats, but i do have a greyhound
Ok so she didn't sit on top of the zoozone(thank god for that )
But i did always feel peggy was quite safe in there, the plastic on the zoozone is very sturdy and durable(i've had my zz2 for over 5 years and its still going strong)
I always supervise my dog if she is in the bedroom with them, shes just so powerful and has been bred to chase things unfortunately, but i think it would be very good for cats.
Hugo should be quite safe, but obviously you must keep a close eye as you never know.

My male cats are big boned (fatties) and Im sure the zz would take the weight of them, the only cage theyve ever managed to get into was a perfecto tank and they broke the lid open by play fighting on top of it, luckily there wasnt any occupants in it at the time but if you have that kind of tank lid I would say the zz is safer.

Do you think if I mesh the lid and have the cage on the floor that he'd be OK while I'm at work?

Re: Does anyone have a zoo zone and cats?
Erm, im nottoo sure, as i have Milo on the floor 24/7 and my cats just watch him, dont bother doing anything else, my cats also scratch the carpet to get in room, and as cruel as thsi sounds, it doesnt hurt the,, every time you see them doing it, get a spray bottle, fill it with water and spray them and they soon learn, if we scratch the carpet - we get sprayed! D: so they might there forenot go in
