I put wood shavings on every floor when I get a new hamster just so I know where they like to go to the bathroom then I tend to just put the shavings in that area and about half an inch covering on the bottom, my hammy's have ALWAYS gone to the loo next to the housing bit in the corner that seems to be 'the spot' I don't know if that will be the same for you? Any questions you have about the cage I will be more than happy to answer them as I have had the cage for two years
