Default Hamster "bathrooms"/a pic of my cage!!

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k78/x ... 0_2253.jpg

My most recent pic today!! In the right bottom corner is this stuff I bought at Petco by Kaytee and it's called "Soft-Sorbent" and it can be used as bedding (I won't do!) but since I tried sand baths with him, he doesn't clean in it, he uses it as a toilet...so I got him that stuff to use as a toilet and he uses it...have you heard of this stuff? I know the "Kaytee" brand isn't recommended but it's pretty good for him..What do you think of it? What do you do for your hammie's "bathroom"?

My Hammis doesnt have a bathroom, She just goes in one of the corners and she doesnt need a a bathroom because she cleans herself fine and she always smells good so I have never bothered.

Only sometimes she smells bad, that is when she discharges in the hot weather but it soon passes and my parents and sister dont seem to notice anyway.

We don't have that brand in the UK so I don't really know it. Is it a bit like granules of either clay or wood based cat litter? If he uses it well as a toilet then that is good. Only problem we have had with the granular small animal litter is that we find that babies try and eat it! That is why we stick with sand.

Minicooper all females have a distinctive smell as they go through the oestrous cycle which takes only 4 days. Strangely they smell least to us when they are fertile on the 4th day! However they smell more to males judging by the way the boys go crazy on that night. The discharge changes from a whitish colour to clear when they are in season. You may not notice it because you have been used to only that smell but if you keep both sexes you would be able to tell the difference.
