Few questions!
As I was thinking of going to great alne show, got talking with amethyst and theres a few things I'd like to know
For pet section is it spilt up into sections/classes of any kind?
What are the awards for? (eg. Is it just 1st 2nd 3rd overall, or for each breed/sex/age etc.)
How does the scoring work?
Do you find that your hams are comfortable just in the carriers for the few + hours your there? Or would you reccommend moving them into cages kept in the car after you've shown ?
Thanks for your time xx

Re: Few questions!
Did you already see internet nobody's thread "Videos of judging a hamster show!" ? In the first post there is a link to a great video of pet-class judging, with the judge explaining what he is awarding marks for as he goes along, and also a link to an article about showing pets.

Re: Few questions!
Found out a few things myself from 'hamsterlopaedia'
It says "a hamster with one eye, or a hamster with three legs, stands as good a chance of winning as an able-bodied hamster"
so treo has nothing to worry about!
Also "many clubs give a certificate to everyone that enters"

Re: Few questions!
Pets are judged on tameness and condition and also making sure they have access to food and water (or something like cucumber if no water). You can take your hamster in a carrier or his/her cage, whichever you prefer but if the cage is huge it might be easier to take a carrier. Most hamsters just sleep their way through shows so don't mind being in a carrier.
Good luck, I am going to Great Alne so hope to see you there.
