Aww Congrats Flamestriker.

That really defines the pitter-patter of tiny feet phrase! It's always a thrill when you pick up a new 'baby'. I picked up Snoogy, my baby hoglet last week and was totally thrilled.

I agree with your post-script. As someone with a household including 2 dogs (Samoyed and Lhasa Apso) 2 Owls (Barn and Spotted African Eagle) 2 African Pygmy Hedgehogs (Albino and Light flake - though he's only 10wks so might change lol) and 2 Dwarf Hammies I definitely agree that 1 is never enough!

I've applied the same logic to my own family - I had 2 boys then 2 girls....
Decided to stick to one husband - 2 would be illegal and a bloomin' nightmare!

Elaine

Wow Elaine, sounds like you have a busy home, haha! I'd love a hedgehog!

Flames, the umbrous golden? He's lush, I can imagine how hard a decision it is though, they're so cute!

Hoggies are very sweet - hoglets are even sweeter 'cos it's super-concentrated in their tiny bods lol!

This is Snoogy. He's 10 weeks old in this pic, taken when we got him home this Sunday.

Jem, my home is a merry mix of insane asylum and zoo.. Visitors are free to judge which residents should be caged!

...But without them all I'd be truly bonkers lol!

Elaine you couldn't by any chance, bring one of your hogs to the show so I can squee over him? You could enter in to other pets? I would love a hog...but they are expensive and I'm doing a house up at the moment, so there's no chance of me getting one.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I've been pretty busy.

I'll think about bringing Snoogy along, though I'm not sure about entering him as he'll only be 3 months old and may be quilling (loosing his baby quills). Even the tamest, sweetest hoglets gets a bit tetchy during quilling as it makes their skin is very sensitive. If a stranger picked him up they could get a heck of an unpleasant handful! However, having said all that, if it's not cold (his heat-mat's set so his vivarium doesn't drop below 20c) I'll pack him in his travel box and bring him along. If I remember my gardening gloves for pets - or you're feeling brave - you're welcome to a cuddle!

As Snoogy will be in our main carrier, I'll probably bring another one for the new hammy. I read on the show rules that the breeders are meant to supply a box to transport the beasties - but I have visions of escapes in the car. Can you imagine the chaos with Snoogy too? Lol.

I think I'm getting as excited as my girls lol

My husband suggested (in jest) bringing Bo our African Spotted Eagle owl along. Can you imagine it! Don't get me wrong, Bo loves small furry critters - just not in the same way as we do! He'd think all his Christmas banquets had come at once!

Anyway, if I can be of any help about hoggies just ask. I also have an excellent forum that's a real fountain of knowledge. They also have an adoption scheme which is how I got my first hog. He was very sweet natiured and a real beauty too.

I hope you enjoy your time at the show. I'll be there too

Just a note about pet class - the other pet class is actually the 'pet rabbit and rodent' (Midland shows) or 'other rodents' (Southern shows). It would be worth asking the show sec about whether a non-rodent can be entered via email before bringing him along.
