Showing help?
Hi,
I could never make Lymm show due to fact that my dad couldn't drive me there.
But I have come across this one, which he might be able to...
Brockholes Show 12th November
I'm not a member of the Northern Hamster Club yet (I hope to join ASAP) but if I go, I would love to enter Rory into the pet class. Do I have to be a member to be able to do this?
I know he'll never be a true show hamster because his banding isn't the best.
If I can enter him in the pet class, what should I expect/what would he be judged on? What's the best way to transport him (2 hours' drive)? And what kind of cage should I show him in? Surely the zz1 is too big to take all the way there?

Re: Showing help?
I do pet class. Mainly because Izu is so small and Claudio isn't up to an ideal weight and size for him to be shown in Main Class yet. I need his skirt to puff out a bit as well but he came 2nd last time. I'll take him to Swindon and see how he does there.
You don't have to be a member. It costs £1 to enter. He'll be judged on temperament (how well he is handling), health (whether he's nice and bright) and carriers are usually judged as well. Things like having food, a chew toy, bedding and a piece of cucumber for moisture. You can take them in a cage however space is an issue. You can get carriers, I'd always go for a guinea pig carrier just so they have room but one from P@H is fine.

Hopefully, his handling will be up to it by then as he is getting better to handle. As for health, he's 'fighting fit'.
How about a small cage? Like the ones PaH sell as suitable perminant homes?

Re: Showing help?
Brockholes show is the show we run
It is quite easy to walk there from Brockholes train station - 5 minutes down the hill.
Anyone can enter pets and there will be racing too so if you have a ball (racing is on a track) bring it along. You can enter both pets and racing.
The best type of carrier is one that is very easy for the judge to get the hammy out of without having to prise it out a house or tube for judging as this can make them appear skitty when they are not. It should have some food, a source of fluid like some cucumber and a little chew or toy and some suitable bedding.
Please say hi - no doubt I will be in the kitchen cooking all day!

OMG Souffle that made me laugh!! I just had an image of all the hams in their little balls racing around a track like horse racing with people placing bets!!! I would love to come to the show just to see that!!

Re: Showing help?
Claudio threw a hissy last time. XD He refused to be picked up for like a minute. He's not skittish. But he's a bit of a snob really. He's not into being picked up but once you've got him he decides he really likes being held. XD I've been working on that with him.

Re: Showing help?
Thank you Souffle, you answered one of my questions - would refershments be available? lol
I've decided to get the one off ebay.
I'm hoping my dad will give me a lift, if not, I'll consider the train. I'll only enter Rory for the pet show as it'll be his first time too!
Both of you say cucumber, but since you can't give much of that at a time, would a wedge of apple be better?
