I've thought about this a number of times. I think it'd be a good alternative. If everyone could vote for 3 hamsters, there would most likely still be one winner. It is very unlikely that most people would vote for the same 3 hamsters to have a 3-way tie. And there's already a 2-way tie sometimes.
My vote had to go to Hamchan, because his is just such an amazing photo  (since I can't vote for my own )
