Re: Ill Winter White
Well, last night was scarry, I woke in the middle of the night to check on her. No movement and I noticed her in the corner under a bit of tissue. I listed it and still no movement, she was curled up on her side. Woke my hubby crying, who came over and checked, seemed she was so fast asleep. That was a terrible moment!
She got up all sleepy and we gave her a drink of water and she ate her fave broccoli and two sunflower seeds ( though I had to shell them).
She is still sleeping all the time and is quite shakey, but its only two days since the op and she has nothing in her cage but a bed. So what else is there to do. Still feeling sick inside, but everything is crossed we make it through.
I'm not sure how all you hamster breeders go through this.

Re: Ill Winter White
At least you are getting her to eat and drink - that is really good and very important -
Still got everything crossed for you x

Re: Ill Winter White
The vet says she's healing nicely, but has lost weight. Now I have to make sure she eats and doesn't just store the food. Another mission.

Re: Ill Winter White
Maybe you can try and find some more fatty foods?
I am not sure what fatty food a hamster may eat, but maybe you can find it in the Nutrition section since that one has a large list of what is / is not safe for your hammie.

Re: Ill Winter White
tempting foods like baby food (with no spice or onion), milky weetabix and porridge should get her eating!

Re: Ill Winter White
Hmm, the eatings not going to well. She won't have anything today and is now really wary of us, as we make her have nasty medicine. Going to get scales tomorrow, to keep an eye on her weight. Today I bought shelled sunflower seeds and peanuts to add to her food.

Re: Ill Winter White
Well its nearly three weeks since surgery and my little baby is doing super. We got some of this rescue food to easy her tummy after the antibiotics and it seems to have helped. She's still a little picky, but is pretty much back to her cute self.
Putting her levels in her cage tomorrow and we add her spinner to her cage at nights now.
I do feel happy about how much money I spent and the operation, she is old but her quality of life is better now for sure.

Re: Ill Winter White
yey! i'm glad its a happy ending this story reminded me of when my little baby Bo was poorly and we had to take her to the vet, two appointments, two injections and eye drops came to 80 pound vet bill... she was bleeding from her back passage.. she unfortunately passed away two weeks after her last vet appointment...
