Re: Ill Winter White
You just do what you think is best. You know all the options and i think you can make an informed decision. If you feel that you should at least try, go for it. If you feel that she can hold on without an operation, dont do it... im sorry but in the end you will have to decide. Be strong. Our little ones cant talk to tell us what they think, so we have to decide for them. Good luck and hold on!

Re: Ill Winter White
Hi,
I know a few of you said no, but I wasn't sure I could go through every day watching her struggle. So this morning my baby had surgery to remove the internal lump. After a call at lunch time to he vet (my husband had to do this, I was to nervous) he said she was out.
I collected her at 6pm and was told the lump was an aneurysm, so a small vein that wasn't draining had ballooned with blood. I was told pretty much anything could have caused it, though it may return. (At least it wasn't cancer)
She looked so sad and wet, as they had to bath her as she got covered in blood. the vet there was a lot!
She's on painkillers, antibiotics and I have to make sure she eats and drinks and doesn't chew her stitches.
She's been in her little house since we've been home, though been out to eat two meal worms (her fav's). The next few days will be the challenge, when the pain relief starts to wear off and keeping her warm (A hot water bottle under her small cage).
At the moment I am still very on edge, but the idea that that could of burst in her, is horrible. The vet said she was brave and didn't bite at all, though she was nervous.
If anyone has been through similar, any thoughts to how best to care for her now would be great.
Keep people posted. Where back at the vets friday.

Re: Ill Winter White
Poor little lamb. I hope the op will help and she feels a lot better soon.
We have had a few dwarfies have surgery for lumps and they do have amazing powers of recovery. We removed the wheel but kept them in their normal cage that feels like home. Feed a little babyfood and porridge to help tempt her. Ours have had disolvable stitches which can take a while to go but the fur regrew quite quickly.
Healing vibes coming her way. xx

Thanks mate, porridge on the ready. She has stitches that dissolve, though is in her baby cage, but with her normal bed house. I'm worried she'll go made without a wheel, but I guess she'll be to sore.
Thanks for the wishes!

Re: Ill Winter White
my first hammie had a tumour removed when he was 1. it was successful. as souffle said remove the wheel and anything your hammie could climd onto...i was told as well to exchange my bedding for toilet paper/kitchen roll paper. once the wound is healed you can change everything back to normal...
hope your hammie recovers soon

Re: Ill Winter White
Bless her, they guys here have given you great advice, just make sure she is eating and drinking and pooing normally. Changing the sawdust to kitchen paper will help prevent the wound getting infected and bits sticking to it.
I wish her a very speedy recovery x

Awww, so sweet and I know she would love all this attention. Believe me, I have cried enough for every hamster in the world. I'm so soppy.
Let hope for a good night and not long till the check up on friday. Just got to get the meds down her (so hard!).
When I know she is on the mend, I'll post a little picture of my baby.
